Tips on buying an used RS6 C7
Tips on buying an used RS6 C7
Hello to all,
I'm going to buy in March an used RS6 C7 2013/14 with a max of 60000km (about 40k miles) with Dynamic Pack (or Dynamic Pack Plus, depends on what i find) and i would like to know a few things about it.
First of all i'll be using the car as a daily driver.
1. Does it have any common faults?
2. What should i check when i go to inspect the car at the dealer?
3. How reliable is it for you guys?
4. If i get the Ceramic brakes, how long do they last compared to normal ones and are they worth?
5. How comfortable is DRC in Comfort mode?
6. How must the gear box shift? Smooth or a bit clunky?
7. Please fell free to add any extras.
Hope my english was good enough for you guys to understand.
Thank you in advance,
Radu

First of all i'll be using the car as a daily driver.
1. Does it have any common faults? - 21 inch wheels prone to failure. Break discs prone to warping.
2. What should i check when i go to inspect the car at the dealer? - Steering wobble (make sure you take it right up to motorway speeds), brake pedal feedback (vibration)
3. How reliable is it for you guys? - Brakes replaced at 3k miles due to failure of disks. Automatic mirror folding required replacing.
4. If i get the Ceramic brakes, how long do they last compared to normal ones and are they worth? - Don't know
5. How comfortable is DRC in Comfort mode? - Don't know
6. How must the gear box shift? Smooth or a bit clunky? - Totally smooth in D mode, you can feel the shifts in S mode but I wouldn't judge them as violent.
7. Please fell free to add any extras. - Try to find one with double glazing on the windscreen as the age you're looking at was before that was a standard option. Wind noise is excessive in the single glazed cars. Stick to 20' wheels as they don't seem to be failing like the 21' are.
Ask the dealer to plug it in and tell you all the fault codes it comes up with. Take a note of them and have a look online.

Re: Tips on buying an used RS6 C7
DRC very comfortable in comfort and good in normal (auto).
No problems with my brakes at 15000 miles.
Go face lift 2015 model on if you can (has the double glazing).
Be wary of any car on 21s - ride should be smooth as silk at 60 -80. If not may be one or more bent wheels and they are expensive.
Great car.

Re: Tips on buying an used RS6 C7
Getting a 2015 would be nice, but the price diff is about 10k and up. Dont know if that's worth it.
Do all 21" rims have this problem?
How bad can the wind noise be? Not looking for a quiet car anyways. My child (1 year old) for example does not like my dads 2016 Lexus RX450 because it's to quiet and suspension is to soft, had it for a week and he did not sleep once in it. Now i drive a Infiniti FX35 2008 with changed exhaust and suspension(harder) and he sleeps almost instantly in it. (Used same seat in both cars).
@ markp did you have any problem with the mirrors?

Re: Tips on buying an used RS6 C7
2015 definitely worth it if you are close on budget, anyway. IMO a higher mileage facelift is a much better proposition than a lower mileage pre-FL.ics3s wrote:Getting a 2015 would be nice, but the price diff is about 10k and up. Dont know if that's worth it.
Increasingly, this is starting to look like a widespread problem. I will be having my wheels checked before the two-year anniversary.ics3s wrote:Do all 21" rims have this problem?

It's wind noise, not the glorious noise of a V8 in full roar. I have not experienced it myself, but by all accounts it's an infuriating whistling noise emanating from the top edge of the front windows - right by your ear. Because there was no fix, Audi decided to fit double-glazed windows to the front doors at the facelift in order to cure the problem - that tells you all you need to know about how bad it was.

In your opinion what would be a good high mileage for a 2015? Have in mind that i will probably use the car for arround 4-5 years.

Re: Tips on buying an used RS6 C7
I don't know what a good high mileage is, I am afraid. But I do think that, if you run the car for four to five years, the mileage difference that exist now will be irrelevant by then and all that will matter is that the car is a facelift. For example, you might see a pre-FL car on 20K and an FL car on 30K. After five years, that is going to be a pre-FL car on 60K or an FL on 70K. I think the FL will be the significant factor at that time, not the relatively minor difference in mileages.
Re: Tips on buying an used RS6 C7
I get what you are saying but my bugget is about 75k euros (incl VAT). An 2015 model in that price range has 100k km (60k miles) and i drive about 30-40000 a year, that is why it's a problem for me. So i am left only with '13-'14 models with less than 60000km.

Re: Tips on buying an used RS6 C7
So, if you keep it five years, a pre-FL will have 235K on the clock and an FL will have 275K. In return you have been driving a better car for five years, you (probably) get some proportion of the Audi warranty when you buy it, and I still think that when you sell it, the FL will be the more attractive buy.
Re: Tips on buying an used RS6 C7
I will wait until the end of February and decide then, maybe prices will go down for the '15. If not i'll just buy a '13-'14 with 20" wheels.

Re: Tips on buying an used RS6 C7
No issues with mine - car is at 20k miles and Pads are 50% worn; managed nearly 14k on a set of Tyres - wheels are easy to kerb - as the other half informed me!!!! titanium finish too, so will have to get all 4 done when she goes.
The top of the rear bumper when the tail gate is open is prone to marking easily; though thats an easy fix.
Can honestly say, I wouldn't know what to replace it with; it ticks every box; OEM sports exhaust is a must; though aftermarket is better......

Re: Tips on buying an used RS6 C7
lain, what year is yours? I heard from a friend that has an 2013 and he did not have any problems. Also has rims on 21. He has ~90k with it.
The thing i forgot to mention is that i will buy it from Audi used cars in Germany and i will ask to make every test on it plus test drive on highway.

Re: Tips on buying an used RS6 C7
Its a March 2015 car, so FL; I was in the same boat as you, looking at late 2014 cars, but decided to bite the bullet and spend the extra on the FL car; if you can do it, I would take a lower spec car and bid someone hard than a non FL car with lots of toys. They are well specced to begin with. For me, had to be Sepang and have a pan roof and 21's...that was the deal breaker - I've had no issue with the wheels, other than kerbing them; bid them hard on the cars; you will get a good deal....

Re: Tips on buying an used RS6 C7
I'll see what i can do for a '15. Until then...is there someone with a 13-14 with ceramic brakes that can tell me their experience with it? (Whole car, not just breaks)
Going back to the wheels. If i put aftermarket 21 will i be proned to the same problem? Or just the OEM wheels are bad?
P.S. Dis not expect so many people to reply. Thank you all!!
