Water in boot ???

The joys of buying used !!!!! First day I've had since collecting last Saturday to have a good look round. By chance my sons car wouldn't start so I got some jump leads reversed mine up to his removed the plastics boot liner thing only to find the carpet soaked the tool kit full of water and the battery covered in condensation from the water its sitting in.
Any others had this ??? No sign of any water above on the carpet so not sure where it's come from?
Back to Audi me thinks

Not seen that in mine. Maybe previous owner spilled something or Audi jet washed the boot as part of their hand over prep...the battery cables go out through the boot floor so maybe a loose grommet

When I see this, my first thought is always to the rear light clusters. Have they ever been changed? Have they been replaced because of a fault?

I don't know the answer to that. I took it back to Audi this evening. It's booked in next week to have all the rear stripped out dried/replaced. Then water test. When we lifted more of the carpet in the boot it was actually flooded right across about an inch deep under the battery. They were just about to close when I got there so I said I would start the process to at least get it dry.
It took me over an hour tonight to suck out most of the water with a large syringe with tube attached.
It's very strange as there is no musty smell in the boot the water is clear with no smell but did go slightly frothy when sucked up.
The way the tool tray and jack tray have been filled would suggest it could only have come from above yet everything above is bone dry.
It would appear to be a very recent ingress of water not over a period of time. Baffled !!!!!

Does the car not steam up at all?
If the water had been there for a while you'd expect steaming up and a
Foists smell surely?

Chris no it doesn't but it's pretty cold at the moment which may account for the lack of steaming up. It's a bit bizarre. I've got a day off work Wednesday so going to have a good look and do some water tests myself as Audi are fully booked until next week.

Do you park on an incline with the rear pointing down?? My brother had a problem like this, although it was a BMW X5, and it was down to the panoramic roof drain tubes which had come loose and water ran down the rear quarters.

Any chance this was down to over zealous cleaning with the pressure washer?

Surely you can't get that much water in that area by just jet washing ??? Well maybe with the boot open ( laughing faces. )

Seem to have found the answer. I spoke to the previous owner today. The car had the ROS wing replaced a while back and it appears the light cluster and rubber gaskets haven't been fitted that well. Confirmed after water test today at Audi. Fingers crossed will all be sorted tomorrow and I can finally enjoy the car

Why did they replace the rear quarter panel? That's a proper cut out and weld back in job isn't it?

From the previous owner. He managed to reverse it into a skip on his drive while rushing to get to work. It was done through an insurance approved repairer.
He even said he didn't think it needed a complete new wing but that's what they did. Probably another insurance approved repairer taking the p##s

Did you know this before you bought it or did you only just find it out?
