Deformed Wheels Register

Post by JonnyH » Wed Jan 04, 2017 4:10 pm

I'm starting this list as many affected people seem to think that it's a good idea. I'm including the supplying dealer as people may want to PM members who share dealers. Even if you have sorted your particular issue via repair or replacement then please contribute.

Type of Wheel: 21" Option dual 5 spoke, black.
Date of wheel inspection: 29/12/16
Mileage: 15.5k
No of wheels affected: 4
Supplying Dealer: Sheffield Audi
Vehicle purchased new: Yes
RS6 C7 - Sepang Blue, 21's, Matt aluminium styling package, Panoramic glass sunroof, Detatchable Tow Bar, Privacy Glass, Sports exhaust system.

RS4 b5 - Avus with white leather, MTMs Milltek and Viper'd.

March 2016 RS6 Performance edition.
Black standard 21" 5 Spoke Y design.

Gradual wobble developed.
Front brakes warped leading to significant wobble.
Once brakes replaced wheels were admitted to be well out of balance.
3 out of 4 wheels identified as beyond acceptable range.
Lost car for three weeks whilst wheels were "repaired"
On return wheels smoother but not as good as new.
Considering what happens next.

Not comfortable with situation given I have paid a fortune for the top of the range car, 600bhp, 2 Tonnes, will they last ?
Not blaming dealer. (bought Tetbury, work done in Reading).
Have highlighted with Audi that I do not accept this as settlement of the issue.
They have assured me that any future issues will be considered in light of this.

I have a problem in a track day. The wheel broke and i lost control of my car.

I went to justice and the judicial expert told that he cant say why the wheel broke.

Audi said that the problem was tire pressure.

I'm sorry what?

Audi are saying 'incorrect tyre pressure lead to a catastrophic failure of the alloy wheel'? I'm sorry, but that's utter bullpoo.

Holy sh1t, that's not pretty. As above, no way low tyre pressures could cause that unless you were running on the rims with zero air in the tyres & even then it would have to surely be a lengthy time as the tyres would give out first.

Wasn't their a celeb/sportperson (thinking German/French) who had a similar issue with 2 wheels? Something's making think it was a modified Merlin Purple car?

Two wheels cracked in the same way as yours & that failure caused a minor accident.

Valentino Rossi smashed up his RS6 at about the same time as danilo and had a cracked wheel. Not sure if that was a result of the impact though.

Now i ask. Audi knows about this wheel problem.

Where is the recall?

Sorry to hear about the buckle. They really are not the best wheels are they.

There is a great new tool for this stuff in case anyone would like to give it a try. https://www.resolver.co.uk/about
No involvement with them other than having had a good outcome in the same situation as you.

Keep all receipts.
