I have just come back from Cornwall and whilst away found the speed limit display clueless. The M5 was mostly saying 60mph and also most of the country lanes and built up areas 60. Anyone else found the display to be regularly incorrect. In London it's only happened a couple of times when road changes speed but updates fairly quickly

I have consistently found the camera-based speed limit display to be fairly useless. It rarely catches an overhead matrix display and often misses roadside signs. You would have to be insane to trust your licence to it. Maybe it works well in Germany but it is rubbish for here.

If I could, I would disable it and have the car show me the speeds that are embedded in the Sat Nav database - they are more likely to be correct than the ones detected by the camera.

The latest ACC systems (on the Q7) use the camera data to automatically adjust the car's speed - that must be a hoot with the car slowing and speeding up randomly and with no reference to the actual speed limit.

In Germany it works really well. One time it didn't catch the sign, but I was doing 240 Km/h, slowing down below 220 Km/h and it started reading the signs correctly.

I would say the problem in UK is the size of the signs along with somewhat neglected maintenance. Some signs are hidden behind other road signs, trees, or pillars etc.
But that is a different discussion as the road signs in general would need to be redone properly

Sat nav displays it anyway. Surely it's just camera based. Never really understood the point to be honest. If you've got eyes you can see the sign.

Always handy to have it next to your actual speed on the head up display

The exact behaviour is hard to discern as it is so random (and frequently wrong). I think it displays the last sign it read until it sees another sign or until the classification of road changes, at which point it does seem to initially display the Sat Nav speed.

The worst of it is that it picks up about 50% of overhead matrix signs so the car could be on the M25 and saying the limit is 40 when it is in fact back up to 60 or NSL, or vice versa. Basically, you don't know where you are with it.

Agree about the comment on condition of UK signs, but there is no excuse for missing the overhead signs.

Basically an optional extra that does not work. Anyone mention it to Audi

I have a similar (camera-based) system on my Volvo and it's a vaguely useful reminder at best, often incorrect for all sorts of reasons.
What is annoying, and I'd guess Audi is the same, is that there's no way of telling what the actual figure is. I have voice commands so that would be a good way to do it.
