I got my car about the same as Mike's and have an extra 1,000 miles. My oil reading is exactly half way so i assuming has used very little. I drive the car hard, rarely let it warm up and have driven it at VMAX on the continent for sutained periods. I would expect to be at the high use end of the spectrum!

Will i get a dash warning for when then 9k service is due?

Not sure Rob, but you can check how many days / miles you have left to go by going into the Car menu on the MMI.

It dosent really drink any oil noticebly.
But when i floor it (Kick-down in low speedS) i can get a hint off blue smoke (Or so i have been told) but the car is still at "max" after a couple of hundred miles on it.

However my R8 4,2 TFSI is a different story. It drinks alot of oil when flooring it and going high speeds..
its common for R8 owners to always carry a 1L oil-pack in the car just too be safe lol!

Oil consumption

My car not used hardly anything at all, still showing almost at max, much changed from the useless b8 which would drink half a litre every 390 miles

My c7 has done almost 8k miles since march!

Not sure I would be happy if my new car was blowing any blue smoke.....

Hi all

First time poster here.

I have an RS6 C7 bought new in March 2015. Few small niggles with it from the beginning but nothing major until April 17. Found some spots of oil on my garage floor so monitored it for a day or 2 until I noticed more spots. Took it into Audi where they then had it for 10 days and blamed some degraded gaskets. Got the car delivered back to my house and when I next went out in it checked the digital dipstick to see that Audi hadn't put any oil back in the engine. Back to Audi for a top up.

4 days later noticed some spots of oil on my floor again, fairly certain I cleaned up the first oil spill so again monitored to check for more spots. Anyway back to Audi where they then had my car for 24 days blaming a cracked oil regulator that they didn't spot the first time. Plus new pipe work and seals.

My car had done approx 20000 miles prior to first leak. Oil change as per Audi guidlines which off top of my head was at 12000 miles. No oil consumed for first 12000 miles and then none consumed for the subsequent 8000 miles.

After I got my car back I noticed that it was consuming oil so it went in for an oil consumption test which has just been completed today so in 621 miles it has used 0.45 litres of oil which is within RS6 specs as they say max consumption is 0.5 litres of oil.

Long story short my car wasn't consuming oil prior to the leak, it's now consuming oil. Would you be happy with this outcome?

Thanks for your thoughts

Ian

Every engine is different but mine appears to have none since I bought it (now 20k). Had two oil changes but always shown full. I would not be happy if it suddenly required 13 litres of oil over same period as yours might...

Mine is a 2015 with 44k miles on the clock and consumes the oil reserve in somewhere between 6k and 8k miles. Not too bad, B7 RS4 drank a litre just about every 1k miles. It will probably use more oil the more miles are on it, may replace the pcv valve at some stage to see if that makes a difference

My wife's Golf GTi Edition 30 uses a litre every two weeks
The thing is it takes 5w 30 fully synthetic too, it is so viscose of course engines use it. Especially big 4.2 litre V8's.
I don't keep track of how much oil my RS4 uses but I check it every week and if it needs some I just pour some in.
I use at least 12 pints a week :drink: , so my RS4 ain't doing too bad

Update.

Still wasn't happy about oil usage so just carried out a further oil consumption test which came back with 0.609 litres consumed for 621 miles and an OK from the readout. When I queried that on the first consumption test I was told that 0.5 litres was Audi spec usage why then when my car used 0.61 litres was this OK. They informed me that they don't know what the oil consumption should be for this engine. Now carrying out a 3rd test and also speaking to Audi Head office to see if they can supply the requested info.

Does anybody on here know what the max oil consumption should be for this engine?

Thanks

Ian

As per my reply above Chunky - a sudden change at 20k to that level of consumption can not be normal I am afraid.

My engine appears to have used less than 2 litres in 10,000 miles; i.e. 1 litre per 5,000 miles. It makes me feel so much better than I am used to, with the emissions and exhaust pipes looking so much cleaner than its predecessor, my B7 RS4, which used approximately 1 litre per 1,000 miles (I used to worry about that, but MRC told me that as little as 500 miles per litre was to be expected/normal). I remember doing less than 100 miles on a track day at Castle Coombe and having to put my spare litre in to get the low oil warning light to go out as I left the track. I pay about £8/L for 5W 30 online, so at the rate the 65,000 miles I did in my 7 years of ownership would have cost a not inconsiderable £520.

If oil isn't dropping from your car, Chunky, when parked then it has to be burning it, so perhaps an emissions test at a local MOT garage would be a helpful diagnostic and might add weight to your argument for Audi to look harder for the problem that your engine obviously has. My nearest garage charged me just £10 once when it had narrowly passed its MOT and I wanted to see, 2 weeks later, what difference having it TerraCleaned had made (the hydrocarbons dropped from 54 to 14 and the CO was a 20th of its previous level !!!).

Best of luck with your efforts to get it sorted.

I know that , you know that, trying to get Audi to understand that especially when there could be a big warranty claim is like hitting your head against a brick wall :audibash:

Found out the other day that on the 2 occasions they had my engine in pieces looking for the initial oil leak they drained my engine and then re-used the oil each time they built it back up. Talk about penny pinching on a £90k car.
