Maybe a stupid question but is there any way of a software up date on MMI. I was just in my mates new q7 and the MMI looked almost the same apart from Apple car play??

Any thoughts

Software can be updated but major functional updates require different hardware. New Q7 is different hardware.

The Q7 and A6 (post facelift) run the same architecture (MIB2) and the newest A6s to be delivered (MY17) do run Apple Car Play as they have more up-to-date software (with the same hardware as FL A6s). When Audi showcased the MIB2 Infotainment system, it made a great deal of the fact that it can be easily updated with new features. So, in theory, Audi could easily release an update for FL A6s that delivers Apple Car Play. However, I wouldn't hold my breath on this one...

Same architecture maybe, but not same hardware. If it was a simple software update it'd be offered.

It is a simple software update. The new A6 has the same hardware as the FL A6 but it is running Apple Car Play.

Just to confirm picked up my brand new RS6 today and it has apple CarPlay ... found out on the first drive tonight .... oddly or maybe not from what I have heard about Audi staff, the salesman didn't know it had it !!
Works well chuffed because I didn't expect it

Assuming this information came from a Dealer, it's safe to say it's unlikely to be correct.

From experience of 'other' cars that have had Apple Car Play incorporated, it isn't purely a software update as changes needed to be made to the Hardware. I can't confirm either way if this is the case on the C7 but given one of the 'other' models sits within the wider VAG group, i'd be very surprised if these features were available by a pure play software update & as someone else said, if this was the case i'm sure Audi would offer it as a cost upgrade as many would pay it.

You didnt spec it? I have forked out £250 on the spec sheet for Apple Car Play...

nope it wasn't there as a specable item back in August when my order went in , I would of spec'd it if it was, but it wasnt on the configurator...spec'd everything else though, including B&O so maybe it was thrown in with that

I never got apple car play on mine (2 weeks old) and it was a £250 option.

Am I blind because I still cannot see apple carplay on the configurator, just been on to have a look....

Maybe its because of the B&O spec'ing that it is in there, but certainly I never spec'd it & there is no mention of it as a separate item on the spec order sheet either
maybe it slipped in by accident!, whatever I certainly am not complaining, really like it , works very well

I cannot believe Audi is charging for this on RS6, jokers.

It's better with a touch screen, mind.

I wouldn't be surprised if the car was built wrong. I specced my Q7 with normal Double spoke 21inch wheels and it came with 21 inch polished double spoke(£650 option) I didn't complain . And my RS6 had the wrong diffuser lip on it when that came.
