Build questions
Build questions
Apologies in advance if this has been asked many times before but I have a few questions that I can’t get the answer for from my local dealer.
• Air suspension – does this have variable height or does the DRC sit lower? My local dealer had two cars in stock and one had a huge gap in the wheel arch whereas the other didn’t.
• Adapter cable for the Audi music interface – Is this needed to player music from an iPhone or will a standard USB cable work?
• At what point in the order process is the order locked as I am tempted to add DRC but do not want to extend the build process
Thanks in advance

Re: Build questions
Can't answer the first one, but I'd assume no difference. Standard USB for AMI now, under the arm rest. Order is locked shortly before build, your dealer will be able to advise.
Re: Build questions
I believe you can adjust the ride height of air cars and at the lowest setting it is lower than a DRC car. The VCDS trick to lower the air cars doesn't work yet on face-lift cars because no one has found the security code.
Re: Build questions
Air suspension has various heights, 3 setting from memory (talking about my 2013 model)
comfort drive (middle setting)
dynamic drive (lowest setting)
You also have 3rd setting. The 'Raise mode' button, found on the centre screen, top left button option when driving below 5 or 10 mph, this jacks the car up above comfort drive height, but only for low speeds, I guess for high kerbs/obstacles etc.
With reference to streaming music via an iPhone, you can do this using bluetooth (or you can in mine...)
If one car was lower than other on forecourt, I'd say one was driven in dynamic mode and the other in comfort mode before parking and turning off.

Thank you all for your replies
Re: Build questions
Music and calls can be via Bluetooth and also cable.
The Audi cable that comes with the car (Apple Lightning and MicroUSB are given) are thick coil cables and stop the central arm rest lid closing effectively.
Agree re Air (I have Air on mine) and multiple levels.

Re: Build questions
How do you have issues shutting the armrest? My iPhone sits in the phonebox slot, connected and the armrest closes no bother.
Re: Build questions
I must admit I have found it odd and annoying that the DRC "sport" option sits higher than the std air car in dynamic mode. In my mind it should be lower.
Fixed on mine now though

I keep the bone in the cup holder as it is heavily used when in Reading stationary traffic. Sorry I was not clear.doodlebug wrote:How do you have issues shutting the armrest? My iPhone sits in the phonebox slot, connected and the armrest closes no bother.

You keep your bone where?!Bit_evl wrote:I keep the bone in the cup holder as it is heavily used when in Reading stationary traffic. Sorry I was not clear.doodlebug wrote:How do you have issues shutting the armrest? My iPhone sits in the phonebox slot, connected and the armrest closes no bother.

His bone is in the cup. 2 bit_evls one cup.
Re: Build questions
You don't get any cables with the car now as it is just a USB socket. I got a lightning cable with mine but I think it is dealers discretion.
The DRC can't sit as low as the air as owners would no doubt complain of clearance issues if it was permanently that low. Adjustable height is the whole reason that aftermarket air ride suspension is so popular; you can sit on the floor we when parked and raise to drive and raise even more for bumps. DRC being non adjustable had to be higher than air on the lowest setting.

Re: Build questions
Regarding the ride height (and while the question has already been answered) I asked Audi the same question some months ago and (although it took them a while to provide a non ambiguous answer) this was what they settled on:
"There is no difference in suspension between RS6 and RS6 Performance.
The -20mm refers to the ride height of the air suspension (in dynamic mode) vs the standard A6 Avant on steel springs. (I had referred to their own product literature which they didn't seem to know about)
With the air suspension, moving into dynamic will reduce it -10mm vs auto mode, and also it can be lifted +20mm vs auto mode. Therefore auto mode is -10mm vs current A6 Avant.
The DRC setup does not change ride height and is the same ride height as the auto mode (-10mm)."
With some further back and forth they eventually confirmed;
"DRC is 10mm higher than dynamic air suspension. So it is the same as the auto mode for RS air suspension."
Basically Air (in Dynamic) will sit 10mm lower than DRC

Re: Build questions
Makes sense. Its a shame a dealer couldn't answer it!
Many thanks
