Paint defects on sill

Post by si_b » Mon Jul 18, 2016 8:33 am

My 7 month old C7 was in at the detailers over the weekend having paint correction prep and then paint protection film fitted.

When they tried to remove the stone chip protection Sticker (with a heat gun) from the back of the offside sill, it took the paint with it! On closer inspection, the paint has peeled off the large areas of the underside of the sill and is bubbling in other places.

In contrast the paint on the nearside sill is perfect, which suggests that the paint system has failed completely on the one sill. Not impressed on a 7 month old car with 4000 miles on it!

Anybody had a similar experience with this sort of thing?

I'm guessing this is an issue I should take up with Audi under the paintwork warranty, so has anybody got any tips for me to go about doing that?

Thanks.

Yes. I had this on an RS3. Warranty job, should be no argument but you'll have to go after the sills and not where you've removed the Sticker as they'll argue on that.

Is it paint and lacquer or just the lacquer. Not that it matters, just curious.

Paint and lacquer, right back to bare plastic. It would suggest that the plastic may have been contaminated when they painted it or not prepared properly.

Aye, that's bad. I had lacquer dropping off in various places. No argument when I took it in.
