Litchfield Stage 1 Tune

Post by C2 VXT » Sat Jun 11, 2016 10:59 pm

Anyone decided that you're RS6 is a little underpowered or could do with greater economy and decided to go with Litchfields Stage 1 tune? If so your thoughts on performance increase would be appreciated. I've read the magazine reviews, however the opinion of a fellow RS6 owner would be good.

Litchfield Audi RS6 Stage 1 UpgradeOur Stage 1 upgrade improves the already excellent standard RS6 by remapping and calibrating the engine management system. This recalibration will release an extra 100bhp and transform the way the RS6 performs without pushing the limits of the standard components.

The Stage 1 Power upgrade includes:

Improved boost control
Revised ignition control, Variable Valve timing and Fuel maps
Reduced fuel consumption (especially on partial throttle conditions)
Increase in both power and torque across the whole rev range
Custom mapping on state of the art dyno
The Stage 1 package costs £600 inc. VAT

Can't comment on that tuner but I've been out in an MRC tuned c7 and it was bloody quick!!
I think if I owned one that's the route I would take

Do a little search on here, it has been discussed before. I think Leo knew a lot about this and ended up going to MRC. He certainly had some interesting points to make about the Lichfield mods.

If I ever map mine it will no doubt go to MRC.

Ive used Litchfields extensively on my R35 GTR and could not fault them, so I'm expecting to be impressed. Will look at MRC though.

I'm currently considering the ABT route. Main reason is it is a seperate post ecu box so the ecu code doesn't get touched (full removable) and they supply an additional warranty cover if Audi try and wriggle out. Being a nearly new car this makes sense. The downside is it is much more than the Lichfield / MRC etc. Options

And please stop wiggling out of "warranty" work.

Either have the balls to tune and take concesquensce.

OR

Don't get a re/map at all.

Blokes with 80k cars......trying there hardest to "wipe ECU" of it all goes wrong?

Man up.

Think there is a few of us on here know a guy with a MRC Tuned RS7 who's car has been off the road for 4 months getting rebuilt due to melting 3 Pistons! Also sheared a drive shaft! When tried to claim under warranty for drive shaft the TD1 flagged up and the wouldn't touch it!! Chris is right! You want more speed be prepared to pay for it one way or another!!

Litchfield should stick to tuning Nissans. They don't belong in the VAG game and I found them to be full of empty promises when I was in discussion with them. It was near on impossible to get hold of Iain and when I did, it was a case of "I'll get back to you" - Nothing.

Their figures don't stack up, 650hp for Stage 1 and then 730hp when you fitted a cat back exhaust. I asked him to explain the 80hp difference from the catback and he couldn't, he said the figures were wrong and he would update his website. Nope, still nothing.

He is just completely disinterested and spends all his time on R35 projects. He tuned one up (his own) and then marketed that fact, I don't know anyone else who has a Litchfield tuned RS6 or RS7. At £600 it will be a clone of his own stage 1 tune and from speaking with other tuners, not just MRC, this generic approach does not work well on the 4.0TT, what works on one car may pull out a lot of timing and boost on another. The 4.0TT needs custom tuned for this reason. MRC had my car on the dyno pretty much the whole day fine tuning, that alone is worth more than £600 in dyno time.

MRC say the plug change is a must, no mention of updated plugs from Litchfield.

I just had a gut feeling to stay clear and that they were only attractive initially due to their cheap £600 price. I'd rather spend double that and get it done properly and have tuner support as and when I need it rather than having to wait months on answers from Iain because he is so busy tuning Datsuns.

MRC do also have the capability to remove TD1 flags and revert the car back to standard if needs be. Be that for warranty work or for selling on. Not everyone wants to buy a tuned car without warranty for example.

Litchfields reputation in the UK is top notch in the R35 world for sure but leave Audi RS tuning to Audi RS tuning specialists. I wouldn't ask MRC to tune an R35.

Just my 2 cents worth.

Zee, the RS7 melted Pistons due to the fact he was using Octane booster in every tank when the warnings on the back of the bottle explicitly states occasional use only (due to high toluene content in the booster fouling the plugs)

I've run one tank of the NF race formula and the car didn't like it, it works well in other Audi engines but this sensitive 4.0TT doesn't get on with the stuff.

Maybe but the Octane booster had nothing to do with the drive shaft! Maybe it was faulty but my point is that even if the extra torque had nothing to do with it shearing Audi are not interested once the Td1 flag exists. It's a long way down south on a transporter to get the flags removed as right now I believe it can't be done remotely.

I think that a spare ecu might be a solution? The cost of one is minimal compared to new engine
