First 1000 miles with PE

Just passed the 1000 mile mark on the commute home tonight. Roughly one month old- all driving done commuting in traffic. My thoughts:

Loving it. Real smiles per mile when I hit the throttle when traffic clears. Hard to keep to 70!

Got protection film done by Robert at Incredible Detail Glasgow. He did a great job, nice to deal with and on the trip home I got hit by a rock from a car in the next lane bounced of the offside front wing and onto the windscreen. Chipped the film but it really limited the damage. Scottish roads are covered in crap and I am much happier to have the front protected otherwise it would be a chip a day at least.

No major cornering done but unsurprisingly feels soft compared to the RS4 (gathering dust under the office).

Some admiring glances (including the Police-I think).

Sport mode has the exhaust f*rting and popping on overrun and even when simply modulating speed in traffic which seems to annoy and amuse other road users in equal measure.

The advanced parking camera stuff is a real help.

I'm using the adaptive cruise control a lot in roadworks and start stop traffic. Need to remember its on or I will end up bashing the car in front. Do the brake lights come on when its braking the car- as a lot of drivers behind suddenly seem to get too close?

Interior works well though not sure I am making full use of the connect system. With Mike Fish's help I got connected to google maps eventually.

19.6 mpg if you care.

I care. A bit. 19.6mpg is good considering you're likely to have been playing. It's troubling me what I'll do on a daily commute (30% A roads, 70% Motorway, 30 miles each way). Currently doing 32mpg in the Lexus GS450h and whilst it's very fast and economical, it has no soul. So, I can't wait for mine. And deep down, I don't give a stuff about the MPG.

Pretty much agree with everything MrB says.
mpg for me between 10 and 15. Maybe 22 if im solely on the motorway.

Was gob smacked at this yesterday. Leaving London in heavy traffic during rush hour, M3 to Southamptom at 85 leptons where possible, and back to Glos. Seems to be getting more and more efficient. Not a mpg counter but satisfying given the car's capabilities.

PS but I was listening to Radio 4 that day, rather than Planet Rock...

I am being too soft as usual. My excuse is lots of traffic and long average speed roadworks. I found an efficiency display in the system which is fun to see how you can drop to low single figures on full 2nd gear throttle.

no need to apologise for a bit of radio 4....your secret is safe. I am sure this car is making me select more rock music than normal.

I've done 2,000 miles now, in 3 weeks!

I've found 24mpg is easily achieveable on a cruise; my problem is i find it hard to be sensible for the whole journey. However, it is a PITA filling up every other day when i've come from using a 1.6 diesel VW Golf the last 5 months!

I'm really enjoying the car but am starting to get a bit too used to things now. I've started thinking the exhaust needs to be a little louder and i'm not sure what i'll do about the handling.

It's a heavy car, and i notice that i can look quite clumsy driving the car when it comes to controlling the momentum. The steering rack is really quick, but the car suffers from a lot of role so i found myself making regular steering inputs.

It's actually better at faster speeds, where it feels remarkable turning in at speed for a 2ton car. You can feel the affect of the sports diff as it just tightens its line with no understeer or tyre squeal.

I find the same Rob. The resonator delete is a brilliant mod and solves the exhaust noise issue for.
Suspension wise, I've thought an updated anti roll bar. The same company do a stronger chassis stiffener but it doesnt fit right hand drive cars. Coilovers are always an option.

I'm pretty much sold on coilovers. You can get the ultra low H&Rs for £2,000, which i thought was pretty good. I've been promised excellent ride comfort and of course a 70mm drop is going to make quite a difference to bodyroll!

The loss of DRC is no big deal to me as it is way too stiff in Dynamic. The question is, will the dash throw a wobbly once DRC is disconnected?

Commute to work average is 11mpg (short and fast) motorway 25mpg

I don't recall seeing a suspension module in VCDS (but I wasn't looking for one). If there is one, pretty sure someone will figure out a way to turn it off.

I agree; I was against coilovers on the B7 as the ride was so good on DRC, but the C7 ride is very firm. Even in comfort it is very hard but yet rolls too much. I think they got it very wrong from a comfort & roll point of view, yet it still handles very well, probably due to the diff and quattro rather than any suspension ability.
I was looking at those H&R 700mm kits earlier this week. That Swiss car with the Vossens looks amazing on that set-up:

Are these real time MPG figures?
I'm getting 23 if I'm sensible, 12 if I'm not and my long term MPG after the first 1000 miles is 17.9!!!
As has already been said, this isn't a car you buy to save the Dolphins but mine does seem low!!

Rob, I just carried out a scan on my car and there is in fact a susp elect. module on our cars but I didn't have time to go through the available options.
