Good tyre deal....

Post by vestax32 » Fri May 27, 2016 7:31 pm

I spotted this on eBay;

http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/FULL-SET-OF-285 ... nav=SEARCH

They are based in reading, and although didn't quite need new tyres, because it was such a good deal I had 4 tyres fitted today including 4 wheel alignment on hunter machine. Really professional set up, was really impressed, and the owner was a really good bloke. Did it for £750 all in. The tyres were basically as new with no repairs or scuffs.

They have two sets left if anyone needs new tyres.....

£250 on Camskill. So inc fitting and alignment a good deal I thought. Obviously need to live fairly close to the Shop for it to be worth it. But worked for me as I had to price a job up not far from their Shop this morning so two birds with one stone.

It didn't, but would have done fairly soon, which the dealer was upfront about, and was factored into the deal.

You bought used tyres you didn't really need to save £250?

Not sure about that....

And Continentals? I would have used up my old ones and bought a factory fresh set of Mich Supersports ;)

Tyres are as new, and in my case, my current set would have needed replacing within next couple of months. Im not bothered about the brand of tyre, as long as the are OEM. Inc fitting and alignment a saving of more like £400. So for me it was a worthwhile. But next time I won't bother mentioning it! Have a good bank holiday people.

Bit of an uppity attitude, considering the level of forum user input you've had recently!

+1 for the Michelin PSS

Every time I drive the RS6 now I can't believe the difference in driving feel. I suspected that the continentals were letting the car down, but I am now surprised by how much. Maybe I just had bad luck with the tyres, although they were mix of date codes so maybe not :?: Today was my first real run in the rain, I was again impressed by the reduced understeer and overall level of grip- particularly given the weight of these cars. I've done a lot of karting in the past, and know how much difference a good set of tyres makes- even differences with the same tyre type are noticeable (more of a QC issue in that case but does happen). Whatever the reason, design or QC, I won't be putting a set of Contis on any of my cars in future.

I see that there is a set of 21" with the noise reducing foam on eBay at the moment, average of 5mm tread, for £100..I wonder why?

Still, I see the OPs logic on the savings, however there must be a reason why the guy who is selling the tyres has a few sets of them lying around?

Still, different strokes for different folks, and an awesome car in a straight line whatever boots you put on it!

I think everyone needs to chill out! I do of course appreciate all forum members advice/feedback, but the Continentals are fine for me.

On a different note, just arrived for a family day out at Blenheim Palace, and arse is puckering a bit about leaving car in such close proximity to loads of screaming kids and pushchairs! First world problems....

Well said. This is not Pistonheads. Or Reddit! Come on guys, peace out. :beerchug:

Continental Sport Contact 3 were out around the era of my S4 and were pretty crap tyres. Fast forward 10 years and Sport Contact 5 were winning tyre tests when they came out, beating forum favourites Goodyear and Michelin. If I were lucky enough to own an RS6, I'd much rather have the Continentals than Dunlops or Pirellis. Picked up a new family Audi yesterday (just a TDi daily driver) on Continental Sport Contact 5, drove very nice, good ride, grippy through the one roundabout I got carried away through haha

Thanks Ian. I'm not saying the MPSS's aren't better, but for my purposes the Conti's are absolutely fine. I have wife and kids in the car a lot of the time anyway, and on the odd occasion I really push the car I don't tend to do it in the wet. Different people use their cars differently.
