FL v Pre FL

Post by rtd » Fri Apr 15, 2016 11:25 am

quick question everyone is it worth going for a FL car over a pre FL car? or are the changes so minimal that a pre-FL car is still OK?

The biggest differences is that fl models get double glazed front windows, sweeping rear indicators, matrix led headlights as standard options. Plus the FL is supposed to be a bit more efficient so is in a lower tax band (£295 instead of £500).
I am sure there are a few more differences but can't remember off the top off my head.

Of course it all comes down to personal financial circumstances as well. I am sure you would not be dissapointed with which ever model you choose.

And the Tech gets a significant upgrade. Virtual Cockpit esque moving map in the dash, 4G Radio on the Audi Connect.

I have a FL C7 so have not driven a pre FL but the comments elsewhere on the forum seem to suggest the front double glazing went a long way to curing a road noise issue. Also the lights on the FL car amazing, if the floodlights fail at Wembley you could just stick a C7 at each end to light the game. Dash tech is nice although not a patch on the new stuff on the TT / A4 / R8 etc

2015 SQ5 Sprint Blue - Gone, not quite special enough
2006 B7 RS4 Misano Red - panicked and sold big mistake
So much crap prior to this can't actually remember

ISh agreed - I like analog clocks, screens are too bright when it's dark, you have a v8, and you are on tarmac. Screens off - enjoy the road.

I'm not sure how the new situation will work for that visceral experience.

Also Mike's comment earlier the pre FL and FL Cars have a completely different bus in them, making it harder to add stuff on in the FL cars. The new Bus is much faster tho which means the electronics are snappier.

Also, all the aftermarket bits I'm looking at are mostly for cars up to 2015 ie pre facelift. I can only find one aftermarket anti-roll bar and it for pre-facelift. This may change as the numbers of facelift cars grows though.

Plus more alcantara inside, different ARB mounts in suspension (see Mike's thread), plus lots of other hidden tweaks that make it cooler, faster, more reliable etc ;)

Of course they use the chance to fix things that they didn;t soo much like on the pre-fl

But both cars still rock

The main thing about this car for me is the looks and the engine / gearbox, and these are pretty much the same so winner winner chicken dinner.
