RS6 or RS7
Hi guys, trying to work out what to get next and the RS6 (C7) keeps cropping up but can't seem to make a decision. Previously had an B7 RS4 and a B8 S4. The latter was one of the best cars I've ever owned but the RS4 was full of problems including unfixable juddery brakes and DRC issues. Currently driving a Panamera turbo ('11 plate) remapped to 630hp, 600lb ft and it is great. Porsche dealers are fairly bad at customer service though. I have 2 kids and the back seats are practical but the boot could be bigger. This is what is edging me to an RS6 but ideally I like the saloon shape better. Will there be a saloon or have they essentially made the RS7 the salloon "version" of this?
I've searched the forum and read some articles about specs but if I go for an RS6 I'd like to know what the must-have options are:
1. Is DRC better than air suspension? I find the air suspension very good on the panamera and very reliable. I don't want DRC issues repeating like in the RS4. Have they fixed them?
2. What is the deal with dynamic steering? Is it worth it? On the S4, it simply made the steering stiffer. There was no difference in turn-in or performance
3. Sports exhaust - is this worth it or better to go aftermarket? Do the aftermarket options keep the stock flaps/valves to adjust noise?
4. I see there is a new "performance" model with over 600hp which adds £7k to the base price. Surely that's just a remap? Seems a waste of money but I guess useful if you want to keep your warranty
Prices seem to be falling fast. Seen some examples in the mid £50k region. I guess that is normal with any expensive saloon/estate.
Any help from current owners appreciated.

1) I imagine DRC is better (after all, they charge for it), but the air is pretty good. It's a road car, anyway, not a track car. Best to drive both and decide (plenty of dealer cars on both specs).
2) Nobody seems to rate dynamic steering. All the test reports by the mags say to keep clear.
3) If you can be bothered with the insurance hassle and the cost of an aftermarket exhaust, and you don't care what your neighbours think of you, then go aftermarket. I find the sports exhaust just fine - and much better than the stock exhaust.
4) The Performance version has a lot of trim thrown in, too. So if you were going to order all that trim anyway, then the remap bit is only about 2.5K, which seems reasonable given that you avoid all the insurance and warranty issues.
Prices do seem to be picking up a downwards momentum.
The issue of must-have options has been debated endlessly on other threads. Every option has its supporter and its opposer. I think you need most of the goodies to make the car a good motorway muncher, which is what mine spends most of its time doing.
Good luck choosing; it's always the best bit of owning a car - the anticipation.

Thanks guys. Wildbore (or any other members who might know), any idea if the horrible DRC issues that the B7 RS4 had, are also an issue with the C7 RS6? Even if the DRC was dynamically better, I would avoid it like the plague if that was the case.
Also, I take it that this far into the life cycle of the C7, we aren't going to see a saloon version? I guess the RS7 is there, but the looks of that don't seem right. I know that sounds ironic coming from a Panamera owner but I think previous RS6 saloons all look better than the RS7.
One final thing. Is the sports diff an additional option? I can't seem to spec it on the current configurator but noticed that some used cars have it and others don't. I know it was an option for the S4 but I would expect it as standard on an RS model.

Not heard of any issues with DRC (and I would imagine they would have been reported here). Sports diff is standard - and always has been on the C7.
I cannot see a saloon RS6 coming along, otherwise nobody would ever buy the RS7.

The diff is standard on all UK cars.

Thanks guys. Getting there in terms of research. I also noticed there was a facelift in ? early 2015. I can only decipher a few cosmetic changes, mainly in terms of headlights and rear lights and slightly different looking rear bumper.
Did the new model year add any significant improvements to the car other than cosmetic stuff?

1) If you drive hard and like twisty stuff then the DRC is a definite must have - the air was way too spongy and pitchy/rolly for me (After my RS4 B8 with DRC)
2) Not tried the difference so can't comment - sorry, I've never really had an opinion on the current RS car steering.
3) Sports Exhaust is definitely enough, it will get better as the car ages towards 10000 miles.
4) The Performance edition has hardware changes, something to do with valves as I remember, I can't find the article tho
Audi Marketed a standard RS6 to the trade as an exdemo and Audi themselves knocked £40k off the car!, so yeah they are going through the dip created by the stocking in the market, plus diesel gate.
FY15 Cars had three very cool things for me:
1) Sweeping indicators - love them
2) A massive hardware and software upgrade to the MMI; it went from 3G to 4G and got some cool things like the moving map between the dials on the dash.
3) Standard Matrix Headlights
For me at the moment you either go buy a PE, or you go buy an MY15 car that is low mileage and has taken it's financial hit.
