RS6 C7 Brake Judder!

Post by S2GTR » Sun Dec 20, 2015 6:26 pm

Hi All,

Who has had problems with warped discs on their RS6 C7?
I bought my 1st used Audi RS6 C7 March this year with 12,000 miles registered. After 3,000 miles I suffered severe brake judder as experienced by car magazine in their Feb 2015 addition as below: :audibash:

Month 3 running an Audi RS6: the brakes grumble

At around 2000 miles, the RS6’s brakes – standard discs, not optional ceramics – started juddering. This wasn’t a wobble, it was a brake-disc earthquake. I hadn’t been on track, nor driven particularly hard. Odd.

The great thing about having a new car is that problems are taken care of, but it’s the hassle, the calls, the disappointment that your car has broken. I called Peterborough Audi. ‘Don’t drive it,’ they said. ‘Call Audi Recovery, get it recovered to us. We can give you a web-link to watch our technicians check it over.’

Audi RS6 engine: providing the fireworks

I just knew that the technicians would love me remotely watching them, so I said ‘great.’ It would have been greater if they could’ve just dispatched Audi Recovery, but still… they answered promptly, offered me a hire car and took the RS6 away within hours. I never did get that web-link, but the verdict was quickly in: ‘new discs and pads’. The RS6 was soon returned, fully valeted.

‘We haven’t heard of this issue,’ said the Audi manager who delivered my car. ‘But Audi will want the old brakes back for inspection, and if there are a few cases, you can bet there’ll be a recall.’

I asked for a full report but, two weeks on, I’m still waiting. Any RS6 owners with wobbly brakes? Get in touch.

By Ben Barry

At that time my local dealer replaced the discs & pads under warranty.

Great I thought, until 3,000 miles later & the same problem returns! This time my local Audi dealer refuse to replace under warranty! :audibash:

Sent an email to Audi UK customer services, who after a week also refuse to replace under warranty! :audibash:

Any one else had similar problems? If so please get in touch. :audibash:

Thanks for looking,

Dave.

Hi I am having the same problems and I have had 2 brand new sets all the way round and it's back again. They said it might be due to me having the wheels refurbished so last time they took back the paint in the wheel hubs but that did not work and it's due back in 10th Jan.

How many miles at each swap?

if its a regular issue for a lot of rs6 owners at low miles then its a design fault I would have thought - thus audi should sort them out foc. May be worth anyone affected starting a name list and miles affected with a view of contacting trading standards if reqd?

I had have had 2 new sets. Only 5000 miles. Now after 1500 miles they are squealing like a b!tch. Very poor I think and your right about the inconvenience. Buy a RS6 and end up with A3 courtesy car!

Mine went at 12k and the 2nd set lasted 1k but it only happened when I went on the motorway mad did 90miles continuous, they even said it might be due to them not doing the run in prosecute on them but the 2nd set was some as per the handbook as the door footed the bill

Best laugh was I had to pay for the 1st replacement as Audi warranty advises they don't pay for breaks even thought they were warped

Audi replaced the pads & discs foc 1st time around, when it came back 3,000 miles later, they refused to replace under warranty!
So I took it to an independent garage & paid to have them skimmed.

Tried that, Audi response below: :audibash:

From… Audi UK Customer Services

Subject: AU-2015/12-011968

Dear Mr Gilbert

Thank you for your email. I was sorry to hear of the issue you have experienced with your Audi RS 6. Naturally, it is
disappointing to hear when an Audi vehicle has not met a customers expectations.

Having spoken to Tom Phillips, Service Advisor at Poole Audi, he has advised there has been no manufacturing defects identified
on your vehicle and that the warped brakes have been caused by wear and tear. This is not something that is covered by the
manufacturers warranty and therefore, the costs are the responsibility of the owner of the vehicle.

I appreciate that you feel this is a “known issue“ having seen reports online and on non Audi forums. However, this is not the
case and we cannot comment on such reports, as we can only deal with factual information provided by AUDI AG, the manufacturer,
in relation to your vehicle.

I appreciate that you may be disappointed with my response, however, this does remain our final position in this matter. If you
wish to discuss this further, I can advise you of the services provided by Motor Codes Limited, an independent body, approved by
Trading Standards. They offer a free consumer advice line and conciliation and can be contacted on:

www.motorcodes.co.uk
T: 0207 344 1651

Thank you for sharing your concerns with us and allowing me the opportunity to respond.

Kind regards

Bumping this up.

Surprise surprise, 2800 miles on the clock and my breaks have start to judder badly between 70-40mph, getting a touch of feedback through the steering wheel as well. Had all 4 wheel checked for balance. One was slightly off, the rest were fine.

Normal brakes, C7 on a 64 plate (pre facelift). A mix of motorway and town driving. No abusive driving & no sitting on hot brakes.

Called my local Audi -2 weeks before they can see me, I might try to book in elsewhere but want to take it back to where I purchased it from.

Has anyone got an further info on this? Did the 300 mile judder come back on those that had them replaced and or skimmed?
