Hi Gents

Wife has agreed the finances for a new RS6

never had an audi so the appeal is strong quattro/performance/Q car etc. Had M5 in past, various Porks, E63 AMG recently which I loved.
Sold the AMG as it could not tow a caravan and keep the warranty/insurance went for a bmw 535d to tow the caravan but its so dull and sapping the life from me (when not towing )..........

Didnt realise until recently the RS6 could legit tow so just about to put an order in and have a few questions.
Drove a demo RS6 this week

I loved the sound of my E63 drove a RS6 this week without the sports exhaust and played with the dynamic etc setting - liked the crackles etc, the nice burble accelerating etc. Listened on you tube to sports exhaust but having difficulty in hearing/understanding the difference. Can anyone shed some light on it how it works etc. Their view on the Sport exhaust.
My spec at the moment Includes the sport exhaust.

Next question - the RS6 I drove had the dynamic steering - havnt spec this. Any views. Having trouble getting a rs6 demo near to me that does not have the dynamic steering.

So far options are : Blue or Red, Tow bar, Black surrounds/mirrors sunroof, rear airbags, parking pack, 21 black wheels sport exhaust, privacy glass.

Personally I would go with the sports exhaust over the standard. It sounds a lot better and was loud enough for me. However, some people here would probably recommend the leaving the standard on and spend the extra on a Milltek or other aftermarket product.

My car had the dynamic pack which includes dynamic steering. I didn't try a car without it so can't comment.

I would personally recommend the HUD despite it making the dash look a little less lovely.

Oh and congratulations for getting it past the wife... and make sure you get a good discount (err.. on the car)!

Like Dragon RR, I also think the Sport exhaust sounds better and definitely good enough. Note if you are going to spec a black pack the sports exhaust is black too, so fits in nicely.

I do not have dynamic steering and it is actually much better than I was expecting - meaty enough, you know where it's going to point but obviously it was never going to be like a 550 Maranello

Another vote for sports exhaust but tbh never heard a stock one! i preferred the steering feel of the non dynamic steering, but fortunate to be able to try them back to back, personally didn't like the lightness at low speed. Enjoy playing on the configurator !

I went for standard exhaust and wheels as I intend replacing both when I get it. Audi just want too much for these items in my book.

I intend to tow as well (go karts) again I will retro fit my own towbar. £800 and its not even electric. When I bought my M5 I spec'd the £800 bar as it powered out and in. pretty cool. Audi one does not do this.

I am amazed you would drop £80K and then set about saving £400 with an aftermarket bar. Before you do, bear in mind:

The rear diffuser of the RS6 is too low for a tow bar. The factory-fit bracket includes a special removable panel in the rear diffuser that is invisible when the tow bar is folded away so you still get the full look at the rear of the car. If you go aftermarket, someone is going to have to cut the diffuser with a hacksaw to get your towbar fitted or you will ahve to buy the towing diffuser separately afterwards. It probably costs £400

It may not be electric, but it is remotely deployed from inside the boot via a cable - and it folds out and away completely in a few seconds. Aftermarket fitments usually require the towing bracket to be removed from a socket and stored somewhere. And then you can still see the socket.

The factory-fit bar automatically invokes towing mode, but you will have to invoke that manually in the infotainment system - a minor point

The factory-fit bar automatically invokes the ESC trailer-stabilisation programme when you deploy it. It cannot be invoked manually. This detects and mitigates against trailer sway.

Just sayin'

Oh yes, and somebody is going to be tapping into your wiring loom with ScotchLoks and a roll of insulation tape!

the someone will be me, so the savings will be way more that £400. Same way as I am going with 20" wheels and standard exhaust. I will find my own wheels and performance exhaust pipe. the savings are mounting up

£1000 exhaust

I wouldn't want to waste the money either, but a factory fit tow bar will carry some residual value while an aftermarket may damage that value. The saving may not be that great in that instance. Just my 2p. Either way, it's a great car.

I agonised over the wheels, sunroof and night vision (n the end, night vision was a toy too far), so I completely understand your reasoning. It's just that the maths don't stack up when it comes to fitting your own tow bar. It's not going to look as good as the factory bar and it will diminish the resale value, for sure. At least if you fit it youself, you will know the job's a good'un but that rear diffuser is going to cause you some headaches, I reckon.

Also, I suggest you investigate the keyless entry before you order that (if it's on your list). The sensor for the boot opener is right where your tow bracket is going to go.

If you know you want a tow bar I don't know why you wouldn't have the factory one.

Good spec - but the top view camera will help massively in protecting those lovely 21" wheels. Have you seen a car with the top view camera?

see that you have/had a 535d me too. Im selling it for the rs6. the bmw was just not lighting my fire.
