It's easy to jest, but you could effectively be driving uninsured.....going to be a pisser if someone is on the receiving end of that.

Doing 60 with these vehicles, the risk of crashing is virtually 0 imo. The tow bar is listed on the mods on my insurance but agree it's not strictly cosher.

I'm hoping it's the ultimate tow car, I've ordered with tow bar as I have a large twin axel caravan to tow. What I'm wondering is if I'll be the only rs6 towing a caravan! :bigblink: Anyone know anyone else that tows a 'van and any idea how they get on with it.

Well, at least De-badge it so you don't ruin the RS image lol. Let people think it's an A6

Can't wait to wake up all the other caravan club members when I'm on site, V8 noise not very common in the caravanning fraternity. So I'm resigned to the fact I'll be frowned at by the RS owners and ostracised by the caravanners!

just about to put an order in for an RS6 - also tow a van !! wont talk about vans here as im sure I will get banned ! only just joined . :biggrin2:

Was the main reason to get an RS6 as it can legit tow. My E63 Amg could not.

I spec'd the tow bar and it's had some use towing random crap.

Top of the list is I towed our 12m trailer mount boom lift to site in it last month. Got some funny looks when dropping it off. I was travelling from north wales to Poole in Dorset for a meeting and the drop of site was half hour in to the journey. I didn't fancy a taking the pick up and having to drive that for the next 4 hours. The RS6 was more than up to the job.

I have got a 2013 car with dynamic & DRC.

I retrofitted the westfalia kit to my car (this is who makes the parts for Audi)

It will work with a car that doesn't have air suspension, but my understanding is that it's not homologated?

I did it for 2 reasons, bike rack and towing trailer. The kit I have got is detachable, it doesn't fold electrically tho.

Cheers
Really interesting - how much did it cost to run a retrofit for a 3rd party one?

I'm looking for move soon on this so have come back to this thread, but am finding that such a high number of cars have the DRC pack that even tow bar prep is pretty rare (let alone an actual tow bar). I do really want to be able to tow my caterham as it's a justification for the extra wonga over an RS4.

Has anyone ever retrofitted the audi OE item, and if so do they know if it can be done with DRC suspension?

Cheers all

If you have DRC then a tow bar isn't an option.

No sorry.
Only that on the configurator as soon as you tick the DRC option, the tow bar option is no longer available.

The guys are correct.

When you spec the car to be built you cannot have DRC and tow pack, in Audi's eyes you must have air suspension to be able to tow. I suspect this is so that the car auto levels and jacks the back end up when the trailer is on. You also put the car into towing mode as in my Q7.

I have fitted a towbar on a C7 RS6 with dynamic pack and DRC and not had any issues. As I stated previously tho is because I know how to load a trailer for towing, you must have a big nose weight. We've all seen the Mondeos towing caravans where the front wheels are nearly off the floor and the exhaust is dragging on the floor, the air suspension is designed to compensate that, however a correctly loaded trailer will give you no problems.

General very crude rule is that if you can't lift the hitch then it's too heavy, I would have said no more than 60Kg nose weight and you will be fine, just make sure you balance about the axle correctly.
