4.0 TFSi in RS6 and S8
4.0 TFSi in RS6 and S8
Posted here as no real traffic in S8 section.
Currently run a C6 RS6 and after deciding not to go C7 RS6 (not a fan of the rear end looks) have been tempted by the new S8.
No longer really need an estate (my kids are old enough to drive now!) so S8 saloon body would be fine.
My question is about the engine, the RS6 is rated at 560ps but the S8 only 520ps - are they the same engine spec but slightly de-tuned in the S8?
If I can apply an RS6 spec remap to the S8 to get 650-680ps then I will be pushing the button.
Cheers

Re: 4.0 TFSi in RS6 and S8
Having test-driven both back-to-back for an extended period on the same day on the same rural roads I can say they are VERY different animals.
Both are beasts, the S8 is civilised the RS6 downright brutal.
Personally if I was making that choice the exact engine output and "tweakability" would be way, way down the list of factors, indeed not on it at all as in "the real world" both have more than enough power for anything you need to do on the road.

Well it is badged as a "2, 4, 6" forum, 8's are incidental, and rare. Probably worth asking in the AudiSRS or the A8parts forums if you are seriously considering an S8.NICKH wrote:Posted here as no real traffic in S8 section.

My C6 RS6 has been fettled by MRC to 702bhp so I don't want to feel short changed by the S8.
A friend has recently moved from his MRC tuned C6 to a new C7 and he says that the C7 lacks mid range by comparison.
We are also due to change the wifes car soon after the S8 arrives so I could always pass her the RS6 for a couple of months of overlap to see if I prefer the 6 or the 8!
Once I have decided - she can have the other one.
Cheers

Re: 4.0 TFSi in RS6 and S8
Maybe wait for the new S8plus then? Though that's "only" just over 600bhp from the factory.
Have you asked MRC what they can do with the S8?

Re: 4.0 TFSi in RS6 and S8
Im sure the mid range in the C7 can be sorted with a map, the thing is savage. But as stated S8 great car 2 different animals S8 plus worth considering, but still wont feel as brutal as the C7. Whatever you end up going for will be a great car nonetheless

Re: 4.0 TFSi in RS6 and S8
Have you considered the RS7 if you don't need the space? Or is that again lacking rear end looks?

I need rear seat room as my youngest son is now 6ft 3 (at 15!) so having been in an A7 3.0 TDi and found the interior cramped (for the size of the car) I ruled an RS7 out.

Re: 4.0 TFSi in RS6 and S8
Or an MRC tuned S6 Saloon
Re: 4.0 TFSi in RS6 and S8
The same engine also resides in the S6 & S7, albeit de-tuned further.
I'd be 99.9% sure that a decent tune in the S8 would have you there or thereabouts the same tune level of the RS6, albeit they'll feel somewhat different to drive.
The S8+ looks like a Monster & is defo on my consideration list come replacement time. Over 600 ponies in a car that standard is no heavier than the C7 RS6 but in Saloon form (not a fan of Estates). Had an older S8 & couple of A8's & i've always been a fan of the big Audi's. On paper the S8+ is a touch quicker that the RS6 (only .1 or .2 secs) so with a discreet tune it should be quite the animal. Also hoping due to the epic depreciation it will suffer that some deals will exist on new or nearly new cars.

A8 W12 then, LWB and 500PS. Plenty of room in the back.NICKH wrote:I need rear seat room as my youngest son is now 6ft 3 (at 15!)

S8+ would be perfect for you then. The rear legroom & headroom is insane & as above the LWB (which they won't do the S8 in) is mental, i'm sure it's larger than my 1st house in there.NICKH wrote:skirs6

Oh really? A stage 2 MRC C7 will crap the pants off most men
