Opps! Glad it was recovered! Spotted the other day Tom Hartley was stocking once of the best priced C7s in the country (sub 60k not 100k - nothing like a bit of 66% Tabloid inflation)

"Within our grounds we have better security than many banks have, but we can't take that with us on a test drive.
Then post up a picture of what the guy looked like maybe?
"The car is worth £100,000 and although not one of our most expensive, we're glad to have it back.
Arrogant <beep>.

To be fair, having visited before, I can vouch for at least the visible security measures in place. Im sure there are not so obvious security measures too. There are automatic bollards that could stop a truck, never mind a car.

Tom Hartley senior seemed a nice chap when I met him, not arrogant at all. He sees the cars more as "stock" or art, and isn't really the petrolhead type that would look at an RS6 the way some of us would. Also being fair, the RS6 wouldn't be one of the most valuable, not by a long chalk. It is however one that you would be able to either chop up for parts or shift on without too much hassle (had it not had the tracker). You aren't going to do that with an Enzo or a Phantom. I would also hazzard a guess that Tom wouldnt be handing out test drives to anyone who fancied a spin in an Enzo either. The RS6 however is a different matter. The £100,000 figure is a nice headline grabber though, and if that value was given by Tom, then its done for that very reason. Its a lot of free publicity.

Actually, as an RS6 owner, I find this form of reporting very helpful for my morale. The last thing I want to read is " ... the stolen Audi, which - although only 3 months old and costing £100,000 new - is now only worth a mere £57,000 due to colossal depreciation, was recovered early this morning. Tom Hartley, the relieved owner, commented "I am glad the Police got this car back to me so promptly. It's losing about £500 a day in depreciation currently so we need to shift it quick before we end up having to dump it at auction"."

Not at all, just having a laugh. Actually, you raised an interesting point. It seems that reporters like to have their cake and eat it. In this story from March of this year:

http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/re ... hs-5403819

The car is described as a "£35,000 top-of-the-range Mercedes" when in fact it was a (IIRC) 56-plate car and so worth no more than £7,000, and no E-Class is "top-of-the-range". On the other hand:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/ ... n-A43.html

The F50 is listed at £850,000 even though it was only £320,000 new (of course, this second story is the more accurate reporting).

So, I am in complete agreement with you about tabloid inflation!
