RS6 C7 engine failure?

I was talking to the guy who runs the local car wash (wife's car, not mine) and he was telling me about a customer that recently bought and RS6. I know the guy he was talking about because I rememebr a few months back he was in there having his A8 cleaned and was telling the guy he was taking delivery of his new RS6 in a couple of months.
Anyhow, the guy at the car wahs said he had it for 3 months and the engine went pop, with something hitting the underside of the bonnet (he said it made a dent but I'm not sure if that was an exaggeration or not). Audi UK have given him another A8 whilst he waits 4 months for a replacement to be built.

Anybody heard about this (or is the owner on here)?

I recall a recent thread with a guy abroad who said his cylinder was striped. Has there been mant more cases so far?

Without wanting to refuel the remap debate, it may just be something to consider. I suspect given the number sold there is probably a ceretain percentage of failure to be expected and this probably falls within that but I'm just wondering if you'd heard of any instances of engine failure.

Edited to correct the courtesy to say A8 not R8!

Wouldn't mind an R8 for the summer. Then FL C7 for winter.

I heard of another engine failure too.... I imagine Audi will claim it's a 'feature'.

If we have a few more incidents they'll start saying "they all do that sir".

I'd guess they're not much bothered as long as units are just flying out of the door. Just built an R8, 150k. Utter madness.

My first go at speccing an RS6 (well it was an RS7 because they'd taken the configurator down, think it was facelift time, but similar price and options) came out at £120!!

I had a look at an M6 Gran Coupe as i see one most days and it is growing on me. I can't believe the list price on one of those is £94k though!!!

Test drove M6 GC and the regular one. Not a patch on the RS6. Their prices second hand drop like a rock though.

As below, deals are about now on the M6 & GC.

Higher list retail price is justified if you look at the spec sheet of the new facelift model as it's brimming with standard kit you'd be paying dear for in the RS6 & M5. For instance, full leather dash is now standard on the M6 GC but is £5k on an M5 & i guess about the same on the RS6.
