RS6 C7 Launch Control?

Hi guys,

I dont pick up my RS6 until September and in my two test drives, I never got the chance to test it out.

Does the RS6 have a launch control feature? If so, what is the process? Is it the same as the S-Tronic box launch, traction off, sport mode on, left foot on brake, foot flat to floor, hold, let go of brake and then off you go?

I see from this video, it looks like there is a 2600rpm hold so right on turbo spool... Not really as aggressive as the S-Tronic box launches 3200-4000rpm but effective non the less

Has anyone tested this out? Can you hold it on launch for a few seconds, say at a drag strip?

Cheers,

Leo

There's been 70 odd views, presumably more than half of those by current RS6 owners and I'm staggered that such a simple question of what is a very important feature to any fast car has gone unanswered?

Really, have none of you tried launch control in your very fast Audi's? None of you have read the owners manual, none of you have any idea if your cars have launch control or not? It has a 4.0TT V8 engine and 552bhp, that'll do eh

If you all hold on 3 months until I get mine, I'll drive it out the dealer forecourt and film a launch for you all

I think there was another topic on this and remember the procedure you have above being confirmed.

Cheers, I should have tried the search function first :bash:

I did spot the below on YT so knew it was possible

Translated from the details box...

The procedure for using the controlled start is as follows:
- The car must be stopped , the right wheel and at normal operating temperature (90 °)
- Dynamic Sport Mode engaged
- The esp totally disabled
- Keep the left foot on the brake and the right to build on the accelerator ( the rev counter goes up to 3000 rpm )
- Release the brake and Goooooooo

Looks to be around a 2700rpm launch so pulls away cleanly and right on boost

Esp off, one press, as opposed to esp totally off, press and hold!

Tried it 4 times this morning..slightly underwhelming but that's Quattro for you I guess!

Probably due to the low revs, 2700rpm is quite tame, needs to be about 1000rpm higher in line with S-Tronic type launches for a more aggressive getaway.

Still, 2700rpm is right on the turbo sweet spot hence why it manages 0-100km/h in under 4. You wouldn't be able to do that from 1000rpm.

Try getting the car mapped - then it'll scare you ;)

I tried this a few weeks ago. I had the traction control completely switched off and with dynamic mode selected in MMI (as per another post elsewhere). It worked just fine, holding the revs at around 2700rpm, waited for the boost to build then released the foot brake and gooooooooooooo!! I had VCDS connected in, with the highest scan rate I could achieve, and can confirm that the acceleration figures Audi claim are indeed achievable in the real world (0-60 3.7 seconds is what I measured). If the traction control is supposed to be only partially disabled then I guess my car could be even quicker than Audi's claims! I might give it another try with the traction partially disabled to do a comparison, mind you I read somewhere that there is a maximum number of launches (200 I read somewhere) so don't want to use them all up proving what I already know...that this is a very quick car!

Audi quote 3.9secs to 100km/h (62.14mph) so yes, 60mph should come up in around 3.7secs.

Audi are normally conservative with their acceleration figures, I wouldn't be surprised if it gets down to 3.5secs on a good launch.

Yeh, this was my best of 3 runs- scan rate of VCDS is a factor so it was possibly quicker. Might take my son along next time and just get him to time it with a stopwatch rather than relying on VCDS (he doesn't need a child seat, and can refuse to participate if he likes, so let's not get into the irresponsibility argument!!). Audi Built in Laptimer function is a bit dope imo, and certainly not something I could manage to operate with any degree of accuracy at the same time as trying to hang on!

I pushed the traction button once and it went off, is this normal in dynamic/sport mode? have read a few posts here that kinda suggest you have 'middle of the road' setting?

Even my slower D4 S8 managed mid 11 quarter miles from just booting it in the damp with the traction control on.

Brake torque or traction control "disabled" (really reduced) didn't make more than a tenth or so difference. Just by booting it in the dry it moves around as much at launch and chirps on changes to 2nd and 3rd as my E46 M3 does. Before tuning it hardly even bothered the traction control at all.

The V8 with a light tune has so much torque I think brake torque at 4000 RPM would just overheat or snap something, or fry your tyres. I don't miss my GTR at all.
