Shift Lights...

Does anyone know if the RS6 has shift lights either in the head up display of the main dash?? Being playing about and even on laptimer i only get the boost. Not that i need it but just remember reading this in Car magazine...

"inside the cabins both cars make a decent fist of creating a bit of driver theatre – the M5’s head-up display features a rev counter that changes colour from amber to red as 7000rpm approaches, while the RS6 pulls the same stunt using LEDs that flash the cabin with, ahem, ‘upshift lightning’. Both cars are dark, cool and honed inside, the Audi’s honeycomb seats and milled controls being the more stylish, but the M5’s rubber-coated gear paddles stealing the honours for fingertip tactility."

I know for sure it has it. Could be wrong but just have a play about on the same setting as boost knock the shifter into manual and go up the gear as it approaches redline goes red or if hits limiter starts flashing red. It's a bar goes from green to red im sure in the main dash.

I heard in this forum it was evident & linked to the lap timer mode (feature) but being an F10 M5 owner i can't be sure as is on display in the HUD whenever required :audibash:

But how do you cope looking at the Audi, always in front, and the HUD all the time?

Yes is does, on both the HUD and dash. You need to be in the lap timer screen on the dash. You have the boost on the left and at the top of the screen you have MPH, oil temp etc. You need to be in manual mode (over to left in D or S) and give it some boot. The lights (there are five of them) will progressively go from green to red as you near the limiter and flash as you hit the limiter. these come up in the centre of the display. On the HUD I'm not sure if you need the main dash to be in lap timer screen or not but you basically get the same thing when in manual mode. You have to be high up in the rev range anyway for the lights to start working so you have to be giving it some boot to see this working :bigblink:

ok so just back from a quick rip up the road, have them on the HUD but not on the dash??? first time i have driven it in the fixed manual mode, hilarious that it doesnt change up on the limiter, the exhaust goes mental! 8)

I must admit I've never looked at both the HUD and dash to see if they work at the same time. Have another go but switch the HUD off and see if it works on the dash then? Any excuse to take it to the limiter, I agree the exhaust noise is pure mental at that point, shame you have to change up :beerchug:

Well after referring to the oracle, the handbook, it's appears if you have the HUD on then it will not appear on the dash display. Page 26 for reference :beerchug:

It's annoying when a feature has to be investigated via the manual as the manual is just somewhere we don't like to go, but the wife having just got a Mini i found myself in very unfamiliar territory & have spent a few hours scanning that cars oracle :drink:

Back to the RS6, if the car has HUD then that's where the shift lights are displayed if in Sport Mode with the lap timer on? If no HUD then the lights are shown on the dash if in the correct mode? Seems odd as i doubt the HUD equipped cars have different dosh pods & thus different lights so surely the shift lights on the dash are still present if HUD's fitted but somehow the HUD takes priority? I guess it''s less distracting having too many disco lights.
