I've just placed an order - fairly basic - Prism silver, titanium wheels and tints.
I used to spec my cars with every option, but experience has worked that out of me, some of these options are rarely used and a bit of a waste of our hard earned, that we never see back when moving the cars on, so the last couple of orders have been pretty basic, with just some cosmetic tweaks.

Are there any options that people think are worth splashing out on?

I don't really see the benefit of driving aids (ACC etc), I enjoy taking part in the experience, think the car looks great as it will be with colour, wheel and tints (think the Quattro on the front grill takes away from the standard big uninterrupted RS grill), and am not hugely concerned by increasing the top speed of the car as I'll likely never test that out.

However, I am open to honest input and opinion from owners regarding the options they think are unmissable.
I kind of expect everyone to come here and tell me the options on their car are the ones to have, but would appreciate honest feedback on this, which I'll consider.

Build week 39, so I've a bit of time to tweak my order.

Have you driven with and without DRC? That'd be the first port of call.

Then adaptive cruise.

With the obvious exception of RS-specific options such as DRC, everything else is standard A6 (ACC, High phone prep, Camera with top view, etc) and the pros and cons are discussed in multiple threads in immense detail on this forum:

With due respect to everyone here, I think you will learn a lot more from the other forum, where the community is (naturally) much larger.

(I am in roughly the same position as you - I haven't yet ordered - and I have been weighing up the pros and cons of the various options, the VW Audi forum has been a real goldmine of info).

The one thing I am relieved about (preversely) is that, as I need a tow bar on my car, I don't have to fret about whether DRC is a good option or not - it simply isn't available with a tow bar so that's one major decision I don't have to make.

ACC, connect high and top view are options here in the Uk.

Unless you meant the options are available across the A6 range as opposed to being standard equipment?

My poor wording - I meant that the options on the RS6 are the same as those fitted to the A6, so if the OP wants and opinion of Night Vision, for example, he can read about it on the A6/A7 forum as well as here.

Apologies for not being clear, this is just for RS6 specific options.

Sports exhaust is the other options I'd tick.

The dynamic packs offer good value too.

What differences between standard and sports exhaust?
This was one option I thought I'd consider.

Demo I tested had air suspension and seemed good to me.
Had dynamic steering in a S5 and didn't get on so well with it, but perhaps different in the RS6.
Is the sports suspension much better than air? I did wonder since most press cars have sports suspension rather than air, seemed strange. I prefer the suspension to be adaptable and not too hard (especially as I'm getting 21" wheels).

For me, DRC in comfort with 21s is optimum. But I've driven air and DRC.

Sports exhaust is far superior to standard.

Doodle, whats the real world driving difference between Air and DRC ?
I know for deckability purposes the air is much easier as a simple module change is required.
But for chucking it into corners does air match the flatness of the DRC?

This. More roll with air. It's still good, but I preferred DRC.

Well after 4 months gone of ownership I will give you a brief idea based on the extras I added to mine;

Mat Aluminium Styling Pack - This is a personal thing, I like it, but not everybody's choice. Would have gone for the carbon pack if it wasn't £4,200!!!! From what I've read it looks like they are going to introduce a standard black styling pack when they do a slight revision in late 2014.

21" wheels in titanium - Again a choice thing, but I think the car looks so much better with the 21's. As you are going for Prism I would be tempted to go for gloss black 21's.

Dynamic Pack - I think a no brainer, the Led lights make the front end looks much better although I have to say the lights are not are good as my xenon's on the RS4 on dipped beam. On main beam they are brilliant and a nice option of putting the into a different mode for rainy/foggy conditions. The DRC is much more subtle than on the RS4. I can actually drive the car in dynamic mode on the roads as it is nowhere near as harsh as the RS4. I nearly always have mine in auto most of the time and it is much more comfortable than the 4. Dynamic steering is again much more responsive than the 4, again usually set in auto. As I said, for the money a must have.

Telephone prep high - Again good if you like to use google maps etc on the sat nav. Need to purchase a data SIM card if you have an iPhone but I do use this a fair bit, but again a personal choice.

Pan roof - Makes the cabin so much lighter especially if you have the black leather like mine. Have used this a lot even in the winter to brighten up the interior. Apparently this is one option along with the dynamic pack that will help the residual value in the future.

Heated rear seats - Depends if your having people in the back but for the £100 well worth it.

Sports exhaust - Should be standard in my opinion but well worth the extra for the pops and bangs on lift off and down changes.

Reversible luggage mat - Expensive for what it is but really handy for protecting the rear bumper from grazes etc when putting thing in and out if the boot.

Privacy glass - Good options for looks as well as doing the job of keeping the car cool. If I was ordering again I would go with this but with the double gazing. The reason is you do get a fair bit of wind noise and the demo I had did have double gazed windows and I heard nothing but you can on mine.

Audi parking system with top view - Brillant, makes parking easy with all the cameras, also great for reversing out or pulling out of blind drives or junctions. Never bothered with the park assist but this is one of those options that once you had it you will always have it.

Adaptive cruise control with side assist and lane assist pre sense - Depends on what type of roads you are going to drive on, I've got it but never really use it as I drive mainly on single lane roads. It's good when I have used it but wouldn't bother if I was ordering again.

Advance key with hands free boot opening - I like this purely for the hands free boot opening which is very handy when carrying something and you don't need to put it down or find your key. You get the starter button as standard so I suppose I could live without it.

Things I would have liked but didn't bother with are;

Heads up display - I'm not that bothered but I'm sure plenty of people will tell you how good it is.
Ceramic Brakes - Don't do track days and the steels are more than adequate. I tend not to keep my cars that long (although this may change with this one) so the costs of replacement should bother me too much.
B&O system - The Bose system is good enough for me and I cannot justify the extra for this system.
Night vision - I though this was a bit gimmicky but I have since seen it in the flesh and it's superb, would order if i had my time again.

If I was you ordering now knowing what I know now my basic spec would be;

Prism
Dynamic pack
Sports exhaust
Top view camera
Privacy
21" wheels in gloss black
Pan roof

I would love the rest of the options but if this is all I had I would be more than happy.

In what way is the sports exhaust far superior? Does it give a little boost to the power?
The standard makes a nice noise and has good crackle and pop on lift off.
