I may have posted about this before, apols if I have.
- Last October I found I had a fairly substantial vibration at speeds over 100mph (when driving in Germany).
- I went into an Audi dealership in Ingolstadt (no less) and was told the wheel was buckled. To get me home they put >400g of balancing weights on the wheel (otherwise I would have bought a new wheel there and then).
- Got back to the UK and went to Audi West London who said that the wheel was not buckled and the wheel only needed c50g of balancing weight. However I still had a small amount of vibration.
- I got the wheel(s) refurbished and the refurbisher confirmed the wheels were fine but found a small bulge on the tyre sidewall. They were adamant that the bulge was inconsequential but I got new tyres anyway.
- Still had vibration at speed!
However, the vibration has now gone and the real culprit - was...
Pad deposits on the discs.
Got that sorted and low and behold the vibration has gone...
I guess I can’t fault anyone for that round robin of (expensive) diagnostics - except to say that perhaps Ingolstadt should have thought a little more beyond wheel balancing and quite why they thought 400g of balancing weight was the solution I’m not sure, but hey ho you live and learn. Thought I’d share in case some buckled wheels weren’t in fact buckled...

Re: Help All 4 wheels buckled
Interesting that Ingolstadt diagnosed it as a buckle and yet ultimately it was pad deposits on the discs causing the vibration. Audi tried to show me via video that the wheel was buckled but wasn't apparent in the video. I don't have any kind of serious vibration at any speed at the moment so it may be that their diagnosis is incorrect. I did drive a PE just before I got mine and there was a horrendous vibration at 70mph that came right through the steering wheel. I assume that was a buckled wheel. Wouldn't surprise me if it was pad deposits. Appreciate the help!
Matt, glad to hear that yours stayed sorted...

Re: Help All 4 wheels buckled
I found the Ingolstadt service rubbish for a dealership that was literally the closest to the factory.
They suggested to me that the fact they were close to the factory didn’t make one iota of difference to anything.
Can’t wait for my Euro run to Greece now as the previous one didn’t see much autobahn action due to the vibration.
The irony is that it is exactly on those high speed runs that I could have dealt with pad deposits had I know (copped on)...

Re: Help All 4 wheels buckled
As per the thread above, when changing from winters to summers I had 7 out of 8 buckled. All Audi OEM. I’ve never had a buckled wheel in my life.Holmsfree wrote:Holmsfree wrote:Coming to this thread late as always.
Just swapped from winters (Dunlop SPs) to summers (Michelin Super Sports) with both running on non PE 21” OEMs.
During the swap the tyre/wheel Shop informed me that 7 out of the 8 wheels were buckled to some extent, with one buckled badly.
I have never had a buckled wheel in my life.
Going in to see Audi Reading tomorrow about another issue (grabbing brakes).

Elite Wheels in Reading did the work for me (no allegiance at all) and they did a good job for a fair price, inline with what you’ve been offered. So far, so good. Difference is noticeable, especially high speed refinement.
The advice I’ve been given by another RS6PE owner is buy a set of Vossens and keep the 8 Audi OEMs nice and neat ready for reselling along with the car when the time comes. Hmmmm.
