Cant really understand why the comparison to gtr, thats a different kind of car.
The competition in my mind is e63, c63 rs4 etc.
The PE should lap the ring in something like the abt im hoping!
Bridge is at 00:09 and gantry is at 08:13. That's 08:04. Just to be accurate. :) Yes he had traffic - but that's never an excuse. Everyone would be faster without traffic ;)
Not a great time then for such a powerful C7 RS6.

Me & your Leader were only 25 seconds slower years ago in far less powerful cars. :drink:

Exactly - which is why it's so interesting - I'm 25 seconds down in a B7 despite a 300ps deficit. For a big car the C7 does handle well - but I'd be surprised if a standard one is faster than 08:30.

I am all for power, I love it but that thing really seemed to struggle with understeer, it seemed to turn in ok but struggled to get the power down quick enough after the apex. I reckon with the front end sorted it would be a good chunk faster.

Snap, the lap i refer to with PhilT was me in a B7 RS4 & him in a C5 RS6+ Avant. I can't recall the modifications to Phil's RS6 but they were fairly extensive. My B7 RS4 had IIRC, uprated shocks, a Milltek zorst & DMS remap. Being honest i think we both agreed at the time that any quicker would have been pushing the capabilities of both the cars & us as drivers too far so we after that hot lap came off & after several minutes of hysterics decided we were done for the day.

I've just today bought my jahreskarte for next year (prices go up in two days time). I'm hoping in 2016 for somewhere around 08:15 laps in the rs4 (300hp down on the rs6 shown) and around 8:30 in my Clio (500+hp down). It's not all about power.

First, congrats to your jahrescarte, that is great!
Think you misunderstood, never said it would be the fastest car just cause of the hp!!
Im just wanting audi to do an offical (relative low) ns time.
I did 8.23 in b8 rs4 and yes im a amateurdriver, im supercertain the pe will go a bit sub 8 with the correct driver!
Lifting my hat again for the jahrescarte, if only id live closer to the ring...

RS6 (C6) has a Nurburgring lap time of 8:09

I would be very surprised if the lighter better handling C7 was slower. There doesn't appear to be anything on the internet about the C7 though other than a snippet of information in this article..

Actually, tell a lie, it has been tested by Sportauto at 8:05

http://www.dragtimes.ru/en/blogs/view/150

So yep, faster than the C6 RS6. The PE may do a sub 8 I suppose, I guess if Audi want it to do a sub 8min they will, I guess all it needs is a set of ceramics, stickier tyres and a little more power.

I don't see how 35 extra horse is going to knock off 5 seconds. No extra torque.

Guess it depends on the car, the driver and the weather conditions at the time. Run it on a favourable day then anything is possible. Like Nissan testing their GTR, they would have run it on a perfect day, perfect conditions, perfect setup, quickest driver. They heavily marketed the Ring time so of course would have optimised everything as much as they possibly could.

Same with the 918/P1 and LaFerrari battle, the Renault Megane RS that went below 8mins. All cars that are heavily marketed on their track capabilities and all those 'manipulated' for optimised time by their brands race teams.

The 8:05 in the RS6 was by a magazine, not Audi. In addition, it's performance stats acceleration wise weren't great, 0-100 bang on 3.9 (lots have managed it quicker than this) 0-160kmh in 8.4, again a good half a second off the pace going by various articles and 0-200 in 13.1 which is a good second off the pace when comparing against other tests.

If Audi want it to do a 7:59, I'm sure they will send their best engineers and weather forecasters out there to go make it happen ;) Some sticky tyres will make a good few seconds per lap easily.

8:05 is decent, not great granted, but decent.

Great post!

I wonder if forums like this effects audis williness to perform a perfect lap?

Perfect. This gives me something to aim for! My best b8 lap is 08:48 but the car was only 900 miles old and I was VERY scared of crashing it lol. I'm sure I can better my b7 time of 08:30 in the b8 - but the b7 had pilot super sports and the b8 only p zeros which are far worse.

Thank you for the kind words about my season ticket - it's my first. Last year was close to "break even" at 57 laps so this year I must try to visit more and here is my incentive!

All of the manufacturers of course also test / measure on closed days not touristenfahrten which eliminates traffic etc. Us mere mortals have to duke it out with everyone else. Trying to match a manufacturer time on TF is always going to be hard as (as pointed out above) it's generally done by a VLN driver or some other mega experienced driver, on the best tyres, in the best conditions. Manipulated if you will :)

08:09 in a c6 is frankly staggering. I couldn't go under 9 in one with 730ps! But then - it was snowing on one of the days that weekend so was a bit cold!

Not when you look at the differences it's not.

A highly modified C7 RS6 driven by a Pro Driver with likely far more Nordschleife laps under their belt than a regular Joe like me driving a car with over 250bhp less, I'd say 25secs is a very small difference.

Also every chance the ABT time wasn't achieved on a TF day which very easily can make the difference between a perfect/good/bad lap.
