As said many times....

You Map your car you take your chances!!!

For me it's a trade off.....if you want mental figures Map the car.

If you want OEM figures and are happy with performance leave it be.

I personally waited until my C6 was Out of warranty before I visited MRC....but I was under no illusions if it blew up it would be me who'd stomach cost.....simples.

All this talk of "does it effect my warranty" makes me laugh....of course it will....you get a dealer who wants to play it by the book and your snookered....

Someone will along soon and say I'm in bed with the service manager and my car would be covered....all il say is if that's the case good luck...but most people will be up <beep> creek without a paddle.

Any fix on a RS isn't cheap....if the stealer can get out of it they will!!!

Having said that fair play to the boys on here with the balls/money to enjoy these awesome beasts... :beerchug:

Does anyone actually know of any real life horror stories concerning our C7 RS6?? Be good to hear some real events instead of what ifs all the time. We hear of all the massive improvements but has anyone actually heard of any horor stories. C7 RS6 only please as that's all which we are really interested in.

I think so far these cars are solid.....VAG use this engine in numerous applications including Bentley so reliability should be top notch!

On another note! even if MRC are gonna re flash your ecu. What happens if you have major engine failure how u supposed to get to Oxford b4 u need to get a warranty claim in! Especially if your lucky enough to be north of the border??

With regards to potential issues with the RS6,

I'll post the pictures tomorrow but there is an issue that seems to be present on facelift cars. At the back end of the engine bay by the firewall, there is a metal clip that should be about 20mm away from a coolant pipe. On the facelift cars, it seems to be about 5-6mm away.

Under hard acceleration, the engine moves and the clip rubs against the coolant hose. This has been observed on the dyno so has been visually confirmed. A friend of mine punctured a hole in the pipe and it spilt the entire contents of his coolant all over that nice hot engine. Car was recovered and it was observed that the clip had worked its way through the hose.

The hose is an absolute nightmare to change should you rupture it, the whole bulkhead needs to be removed so it's not a 5min fix. He messaged to tell me so I went and measured the gap on mine and it was the same, 5-6mm away from the hose. It was also checked on a few other facelift cars with the same measurements, dyno tests prove that it touches under hard acceleration when engine rocks.

I was meaning to post up about it at the time but forgot all about it. It's a 2min job to fix, the clip just needs sliding along further to the right so you increase the gap between itself and the hose.

Will post the pictures tomorrow just so you guys with facelift cars can go and measure your own gaps.

On a roll the night!! I couldn't think about tuning a 6 months old car with 30 months warranty left, especially with the standard power already there but after you mentioned that MRC tune is undetectable then it's a different story. I'm sure this could be the case for loads of guys.

The fix is to push it along with a flat bladed screwdriver (towards the passenger side of the car) so that its physically impossible for it to rupture the hose....

Great info, thanks Leo.

There was a guy on here with a blown engine. Can't remember what country he was in but it wasn't in the Uk.
Also, at my local hand car wash, I recall seeing a guy in there with an A8 or S8 and he was talking to the owner about the RS6 he was waiting for (back in the day when there was a long wait). I went there a few months later and the owner was telling me that the guy got his RS6 but had an engine failure.

Factor in that you'll be there the best part of 6hrs or so, I'd say £1100 was reasonable considering other specialist VAG tuners are much more expensive. They had my car 24hrs pretty much perfecting the map.

You're paying for their expertise and time too. You could buy a tuning box that adds a few more psi of boost and little more timing but try 200mph down an autobahn with that and it will grenade.

don't care still painful

I do fancy a tuning box. Will be remapping it though.

Don't knock a tuning box until you have read the thousands of Burger tuning BMW mods in the US. HUGE power very very good results.
That's more down to the fact of what's available rather than them being good. Tuning boxes on premium cars haven't taken off over here. Custom tunes however have been mastered in the UK but are not available in the US (although i believe Evolve have just Partnered with a tuner in NY). Having had my car road tested by 2 huge US Burger Box fans, i can confirm if they had my custom tune available in the US then the boxes would be done away with.

That said, as above they are in the main loved by our US cousins & on the BMW's i've not heard any horror stories & the some of the products get significant development, Burger being one of those.
