How have you found the E63S? It’s one of the contenders for ‘next car’
Hi Stevo

I came from C7 RS6, it was coming up for 2.5 years old and only covered circa 25k, the C8 wasn't due out for 6 months or so, and opted for the E63 rather than an M5. Initially, i was impressed b the dealer who gave me the full beans test drive experience and was wowed with sideways around a roundabout fun, it seemed mighty quick.

The reality is once ownership took hold, it cant get the power down and is very tail-happy. You cannot drive on the standard PS4 after about September as it slips out over 30/40mph in non spirited driving in comfort :bash:. Had to get Michellin Alpins from Germany, but wow was that the best £2.5k i spent

Compared to the RS6 I missed the grip and surefootedness, the Audi was very predictable at the limit, the Merc was like the wife, no idea how it would react the day you drove it :drink: I struggled throughout the last 2.5 years to be confident with it handling wise. Performance was great once moving but not as fast as hoped. The RS was supposed to be circa 3.7 to 60, the AMG 3.3. The RS would consistently break that and was more like 3.5 to 60. The AMG has only achieved its claim twice, usually, more like 3.6/3.7. I have tried different tyre pressures, temperatures, times of day all sorts, very temperamental to get to go into launch mode, and it cant get the power down. Another bad side was alignment, normal driving wears the front tyres unless you get them tracked every 2-3 months. Also the steering wheel is not the centre of the seat, so they offset the dash so as you look through it you think it's in a straight line, bugged me for a while.

Moan over

The fecking sound of the beast in race mode I will miss, fan-fecking-tastic. It's like it wants to kill you. Nothing like an AMG for it - Awesome
Great fun to drift - whether you wanted to or not just had to be very conscious on road widths when making progress
The dash - well that I am gonna miss, you have about 40-50 options, two dials, one dial, each side has 3-7 menu options in each menu, very customizable, loved it. The Audi virtual cockpit has a lot to learn, although I need to spend time with it to give a true comparison. I believe the newer version has the updated touch screen which will make it even better.
The performance seats were great even on 3-4 hour long haul drives.

Overall I have enjoyed ownership, a very understated car when going to meetings, it looks as boring as hell until you start it up. The RS6 had a look that people would ask what it was, rather than a full Q car

I hope this gives you a bit of an insight into my experience

Thanks for the lengthy reply and some interesting points there!
Only owned a C7 for a number of months and it’s still an itch that should probably be scratched. Still by far the best all round car I ever owned. Technically the RS5 I recently had was brilliant but it was just missing that last 10% of rawness (even with non Res Milltek on) so maybe I should have gone back to the C7 after all.
The E63S looks the part and I guess I need to drive one. One issue I have is that I have always had a major problem with Mercedes operating systems. The worst car by far I ever owned was an A45. I just couldn’t gel with it and ended up hating it with a passion.
BMW M5 is another strong contender. Had an M3 Comp before and it was superb.
Nice choices to have am sure and need to drive all 3 again to see which way to go.
One thing that isn’t going well are used car prices!! Absolutely insane with no sign of coming back to earth yet.
My main fear being you pat the big extra-next year it all settles back down and your car is suddenly worth £8-10k less.
GFV may be the saving grace but it’s making me nervous about getting into an expensive car again.
