That's life. What happens when you peel off the vinyl and half the paint comes with it? Swings and roundabouts for me. I'll opt for paint and a surface that will take a polish. Polishing clingfilm is pointless.
Quality wraps (applied to good bodywork) dont remove paint. It's a myth frequently quoted by those uneducated about wraps.

I've edited the post above too ^

If you get a stone chip etc that goes through the vinyl into the paint and lifts it, the vinyl most certainly can and will pull the paint. It's not a myth. I've got quite a lot of experience with expensive vinyls on various vehicles. The paint can come up.

Add to that that I've had the lacquer drop off an Audi without any assistance I'll take the spray booth over the vinyl.

Fair enough - we'll agree to disagree :)

How many times a year do you get a respray?

So far none, but I've not got any stone chips to speak of!

I will confess that the next car may well make me re-think having seen the front of a GT3RS recently. That was phucked.

Prevention and restoration aren't mutually exclusive of course. I'm a novice at this as my previous multiple S cars have been subject to my time-limited attempt at keeping them clean so this time, I want to do it properly. I'd be quite happy to detail / use film and then worst case re-spray when it comes to sell.

I want to have it detailed to have it looking mint at least *once* and keep it close to that state for as long as possible. And also limit the amount of time I have to spend on up-keep.

Obviously, the quality of a re-spray is dependent on a lot of factors such as the colour, skills of the body Shop etc. Can anybody here recommend a good body Shop in the South?

I get both arguments, but in once instance you drive around with a stone chipped car most of the time and the other you don't.

Depends on the state of the stone chips. If you've got a front end that's showing more primer than paint then it'd suggest something about the driving style!

Don't need to change my driving style, I have a protective film.

Also, my headlights are protected too. A respray won't make them stone chip free.

So you keep saying - but my windscreen looks like it's lost a battle with a sand blaster, whilst my headlights and bumper are factory fresh. It's hard to deny the films ability :)

lol no - but I do drive fast. Everywhere. And I'm in an Audi which gives me the right to stay in the outside lane 18" behind the car in front until it moves over. Apparently that's not good for stone chips :bigblink:

:thumb: You need an RS6, it says anger/get out of the way from even further back. Though it also tells you you're driving like a coont when too close to the vehicle in front.
