Advice pls for new old git
Re: Advice pls for new old git
I'd agree with air vs DRC, thought didn't find air as bad as you describe.
Ceramics is a different debate, I preferred them and absolutely love the feel and repeat stopping capability.

Yeah - the feeling is similar to my 996 Turbo, when I first got it I loved it, thought it was stiff etc, and then after 4 years of smashing it around, it felt really soft to me and pushed me towards a GT3 before things changed (babies etc etc!!)doodlebug wrote:I'd agree with air vs DRC, thought didn't find air as bad as you describe.

It's the same here.
Now then on the Ceramics, all I can say is that at no point during my testing did I think that the brakes were in any way under powered. I have been able to cook the brakes on my B8, and I was surprised that on the 6 I simply got nowhere near that. Never driven the Ceramics, but I didn't get out thinking - crikey I'd better spend the extra 10k on brakes.
I did get out thinking I do need to spend money on DRC tho.

Thank You for your answer boff its great to hear the views of someone who has put it to the test.
Bad news for me though as i thought the air would suit my needs better iam surprised it did feel so bad.Is the air the standard set up on the PE as well?
Mind you this RS6 will replace my RRS so it might be alright for me.

I have air on mine, I find it adds to the cars all round usability. The ability to raise the car is a great plus point and although it does wallow when in comfort mode I find that Dynamic is capable of containing the considerable weight of the car.
Don't get me wrong DRC is far more focused when in dynamic and would be the must have option if the car was to be tracked. It's all down to what fits best with how you will use the car.
for me air covers all the bases plus I have the tow bar to pull other toys to the track and have fun in.

Thanks Bamf. Mine will be used on poor roads(europe) and sometimes motorways and very rarly pushed hard as its just not possible on any roads near me.
No track or towing. The ability to raise the car a little appeals to me as well.

HiYa Guys - Sensible chat. Great
Yeah I fiddled with dynamic and comfort - the difference wasn't massive, but I drove down there on dynamic all the way.
Vantage yep the P/E comes without DRC (with Air) in Standard spec, so you are all good there.
Now then if my perspective was that I was coming back down to the ground from a RRS or Disco, or something else on Air - then yes the RS6 is a hell of a better drive!! Also if your use case has been RRS/Disco then it would be easier to land with Air because you do get the levelling and towing systems. Which I guess does make sense weirdly.
Also what makes sense is if you do have a track car, towing it with the RS6 it a great use case - and I suppose make the car more useable every day. But wouldn't you tow your track car with a 3.0tdi BiT SLIne on Air?
I guess that then leads into the next debate, if you want to go very fast and on Air, why not go for a 3.0BiT on Air? Damned close with the same ride and MUCH more efficient (The RS6 never ever ran above 18MpG)

Back down to the ground (that made me laugh). For me i would only look at the RS models its between them or the SVR. I do very few miles so mpg not so relevent.
As for the RRS i do find its suspension a little bumpy, much more so than the full fat i had before it. I do now want a smoother ride.

So you are saying if you don't go for springs you are as well buying a 3.0 diesel?? Nah that cant be right.
if you want a real sports car you would not buy an RS6 anyway? Way too big and heavy. I bet if you stick AIR and Springs on a track you are speaking 10th's of a second in lap times and on the road where the cars will spend most of their time AIR will give the better ride.

No that's not what I am saying, and probably being a bit controversial.
BUT, It is an interesting thought - 0-60 5 seconds, loads of torque, 30Mpg (with Air and all that jazz) £60kish? 3.0TdI BiT Quattro S
0-60 4 seconds RS6, Loads of everything, 17Mpg £85k
Drive the same? I dunno, not tried, and yes this could mean I'm getting old.

Yeah I hate the getting old bit as well lol
I agree the diesel is probably a better buy but I love power and loads of it. The diesel would bore me very quickly.

Re: Advice pls for new old git
I currently run a 3.0BiTdi avant on s line sports suspension and there is no comparison. An RS6 is a completely different beast, way way way more brutal. That is why I have ordered one, if the difference between them wasn't that great I wouldn't have bothered. But it is that different.

Re: Advice pls for new old git
out of a E63AMG which was fun to a 535d estate as I had to tow sure the BMW its fast ish, and good on fuel but boy is it dull. DULL its sucking my life force from me (drove a biT audi as well) ........ Hence the RS6 for a bit of poke and smiles and yes i have to tow.boff wrote:No that's not what I am saying, and probably being a bit controversial.
