I'm sorry but that is utter BS.
So you know better than driving instructors at Silverstone picked by Audi?
I not saying that but to say both steels and ceramics brake equally is just total BS. You get two identical cars with steels and ceramics to see who achieves a shorter braking distance.

I've owned my RS6 with the steels and the ceramics and the difference is not even close.

BTW, do you own a car with ceramic brakes?. If not, maybe you need to go and drive one.
Too much power is barely enough.

Side-by-side the first stop from NSL is probably going to be identical. If it were a higher speed, say, 120 to 130 I'd put my money on the 'ramics. It's where stop no. 2, 3, 4 etc that things are going to start going down hill for the man of steel.
No matter where you go, there you are.

Whilst their, I took the opportunity to ask the instructors what they recommended, steel or ceramics on the RS6. The reply was steel with the motivation that steel and ceramics breaks the car equally. The only difference would be the endurance and consistency of the ceramics if you tracked the car.

Yes, they might last longer, but the cost of replacing the rotors and pads is close to 10k GBP.

Everyone prioritises differently, so there is no right or wrong decision imo, if money is not a scarcity they chose ceramics by all means. There is no draw back and you also get the bragging rights that goes with it :)
I was there on Tuesday also and agree, fantastic event despite the weather and really want an R8 V10+ now! The R8's had the ceramics and with the brake steering and lapping they definitely needed them. Day to day it would be personal choice but unless you were tracking your RS6 I would say there are better upgrades to spend 8K on e.g. forged wheels.

How did it compare to the R8 V10 with steel brakes?

They all had ceramics so couldn't compare but given there was about 24 of us all doing brake steer testing from acceleration to full stop over a full morning I doubt they would be in the same state at the end of it. The RS3s throughout the day also got a good punishing and they had standard steel brakes.

Need to go faster....Had S1s when I did it and they got a bit fadey after a while. Did Macan over the road and that really did fade.

And as for the instructors, the dude that took us was clear, ceramics all day.

They are also bigger discs on the RS6, ergo more braking surface.

NO, I have a C6 RS6 9xx PS and a R8 GT both have ceramics. Like I have said.... it's a must IMO for a 2 ton RS6 barge, the confidence in braking from them is just awesome. I always say to people who ask me the same question.... how much do you put a value on your life?. Don't get me wrong, the steels will do the job BUT the Ceramics are 10 folds better.

I've not has the pleasure of them but ^ is quite an pro point:)

They all had ceramics so couldn't compare...
Then why make a statement that they definitely needed them? I've done the same event in the R8 V10+ too, it was amazing, I just never felt the need make statements like this.

Anyways. Back on thread.

It was an opinion like everything else in this forum given what we were doing with the cars outside of normal everyday driving.

Your name spelt backwards. Not a cool fact, but.... ah, forget it.

Never driven a car with ramics. From what I believe and what has already been said, steels are as good as ramics if not better on first stop (not from 100+mph) , after that ramics rule.
previous- Pug 205 gti, 306 gti, 309 gti Goodwood.
Audi S3, S4 V8 avant.
Porsche Macan Turbo.
Gone but NEVER forgotten - C5 RS6 Misano red avant.

Just as a matter on interest has anyone on here had RS6 C7's with both brake options and the same tyres on?

R8 steels are just as good as ramics.

McClaren 12C steel brakes are mind bending.

Steel brakes are fine, until you talk about stopping an Elephant.

The C7 is an Elephant. Its needs ceramics.
