That's a good shout mat776, I'm having gtechniq done on Sunday but I'll ask them to give it a light wash, you're absolutely right the detailer prefer to apply it in their own workshop as apparently it needs to dry overnight? I'm not overly concerned about the light wash as Paul at PW Pro in mansfield is going to remove all the fine scratches and imperfections before he applies the protection. Yet I'm with you on never letting the dealer wash your car!!mat776 wrote:I had a recent car (SQ5) detailed (gtechniq) prior to collection.
Although it worked out fine, its not ideal. Logistically its difficult and its better for the detailer to work in their own controlled environment. Particularly with the longer cure times needed for products like EXO and Crystal Serum and the like.
Frankly the few hours/days after collection and before detail wont cause any issue a decent detailer cant sort out, if any at all.
Just make sure that the dealer doesn't valet it ! (although, if they do it can be dealt with - as above)
It should be clean enough to check the panels once the wrap is removed so that they can PDI it properly and if not I would wash it myself on their premises prior to collection, armed with snow foam, two buckets and a few 5 litre canisters of de-ionised water in a garden sprayer. (possibly some wax/tar remover - although this is less of a problem nowadays i think).
Anyway that's what I think I will do when mine arrives, despite how ridiculous my wife think I am !
Car looks fantastic btw parmd - cant wait !
My SQ5 is panther - i love it (if a bit unforgiving)- but have gone daytona this time on the rs6 - never had anything other than black cars up until this one, thought it was time for a change and in London wanted it to be a little more discreet and a little more like any other a6. Although I do like daytona a lot too!
Very excited off to see it and finalise the paperwork in an hour
