Coolant for rs6 c7

Post by Tadass910 » Sat Dec 28, 2024 3:26 pm

Hello,

Which one coolant you are using? suddenly my warning light on that I need check coolant level, but car was parked up hill for a week (in a mountain’s temperature was low all week about -10) driving for 1km or so light disappeared. Before that checked codes with carista and got this one:

But after stopping and turning on car code disappeared. Only now I don’t have heating in my car, maybe I need top up coolant? No other codes in car related with heating.

I had the exact same issue in December, the heating in the car then worked the next day but it happened twice on me. I topped up with coolant and it hasn't happened since, the coolant bottle states G12 next to the filler, but the user manual might be more descriptive as to the type as I know there is G12+, maybe G12++ and G13 as well. I just checked my level and despite topping up < 300 miles ago it seems to have settled down to just below min mark again, might get it checked for maybe a small leak, hopefully not in the radiator!

Hi Nick,

Had exactly same issue with mine (2017 Performance) last month - I wonder the common denominators were the cold weather and infrequent usage.

Took mine to Audi OEM dealer as still under warranty, they diagnosed leaking water pump and waiting for parts now.

Apparently quite a common issue on RS6.

I did top up with a universal coolant from Prestone, just for the drive to the dealer.

Hope your issue won't recur - would probably need some investigating if it does.

I also topped up with universal coolant picked up from a Shell garage as I thought I had best top up due to the frequency of errors. I had a panic when I looked into what Universal coolant was after the fact and thought I might have tainted my coolant, I contacted my independent garage (specialists in Audi) and they reassured me it wasn't a big issue. I didn't even know universal coolant was a thing. I topped up by 750ml and it took it to max mark.

Despite topping up my level seems to have settled to what I normally see it as which is slightly below the min mark when cold, this is after < 300 miles.

My plan now after speaking to the garage is to order some G12 / G13 coolant top it up again and see what happens and then book it in for a check over and full flush. It might be a small leak which is so small the coolant is crystalising and stopping so it isn't always obvious!? Hopefully it is nothing serious.
