Rear Caliper Decals
Rear Caliper Decals
Hi guys
The decals on my rear caliper flat faces have broken down and need replacing. Expecting Audi dont offer this on its own what are the options please?
Thanks
Carl

Re: Rear Caliper Decals
Im hoping to cover the full face like OEM rather than just the words RS6, didn't see that when I searched.
Re: Rear Caliper Decals
I'm sure i've seen the whole of that alloy plate for sale on the Bay also, they are only pushed on anyway so you could remove, respray then fit the heat proof Stickers?
Re: Rear Caliper Decals
When you say pushed on, are there any retaining clips etc to get them off then?
Thanks
Carl

Re: Rear Caliper Decals
The RS6 c7 rear caliper is a fairly common style used on a lot of VW group cars with the exception that the outer face of those fitted to the RS6 C7 are predrilled to accept the cover plates.
As usual google is your friend - part number appears to be 8K0698221A (best to confirm with Audi).
When I did my pads and discs it was a simple matter to gently prise off the covers (iirc the cover pins are solid aluminium posts that are a friction fit in the caliper holes- with the 'clips'). My covers were in reasonable condition so not much effort was required to remove them- your ones seem pretty corroded so maybe some release fluid on the cover pins would help so as not to damage the cover when prising(?). [It turned out I could have left the covers in place when changing the discs and pads as the pistons simply push back in and don't need to be screwed back in with a winding tool (VCDS is required to back off the hand brake though)].As usual google is your friend - part number appears to be 8K0698221A (best to confirm with Audi).

That's a great find, thanks, I checked with an Audi parts supplier and its a discontinued part sadly, not sure why or what the alternative is now, probably a full caliper.

I damaged mine after thinking they needed to be removed to push back the callipers. Audi confirmed in need to buy a complete new set of rear brakes as they don’t see the parts separately any more!! I found some on eBay but they didn’t ever arrive

Re: Rear Caliper Decals
Has anyone found a source for the decal plates? Some git has decided to deprive me of one of my plates - not sure when in the last month it was removed but unlikely to have been at my home as cars are covered by multiple cameras and i review all alerts daily! Hopefully this isn’t going to be a thing given I understand that they are not available (without calliper) from Audi.
I can understand from a safety perspective that Audi probably don’t want to be seen to be enabling keen modifiers to drill their callipers to accommodate the plates but surely if you can prove you have an RS with factory machined callipers then the individual part should be available

Re: Rear Caliper Decals
I managed to get 2 new rear decal plates and emblems - custom made:
Dave Williams used my remaining OEM as a pattern and fabricated the plates including the mounting pins (a first for him). The finish is truly top quality and really puts my OEM plate to shame. Best of all they are stainless steel construction so should fare better than the aluminium OEM which are prone to oxidation!
And I didn’t need to waste money on buying a new calliper just to get a replacement plate after all - I almost did!
Please feel free to drop Dave an email enquiry (davewilliams220@yahoo.co.uk) if you are in the market to replace/refresh your calliper plates - you wont be disappointed!

Re: Rear Caliper Decals
Plates are relatively easy to replace - on my stock (non-performance) 21” wheels I didnt even need to remove the wheels to do so. It was a matter of gently prying off the my remaining OEM plate - the fixing clips came out attached to my plate- otherwise it would have been easy to fish them out. I have a kit of plastic interior trim removal tools that I used one of to ease the plate off - I’d recommend not to use anything metallic. The clips have small barbs on them and it was fairly easy to make them more prominent again to ensure that they grip the plate pins and calliper holes.
I think prices are around 70 GBP for the pair - excellent value compared to a +400GBP calliper from Audi. Make contact with Dave, he is a great guy; he will let you know the actual pricing and I am sure that you wont be disappointed.
