RS6 Dirt Roads / Camping

Post by AlexB7RS4 » Sat Mar 26, 2022 11:35 pm

Hi all,

Prior B7 RS4 owner who went to a Land Rover Discovery 4 a few years back largely for practical purposes. I’ve been a big fan of the C7 RS6 for many years, and am tossing up getting into one.

My lifestyle does include some camping - in Australia this means dirt roads that are not always in perfect condition. Not necessarily always proper off roading (I do that in the Disco, but I don’t need to). The RS4 saw them a few times and it wasn’t a nice experience, it was a bit too low and stiff.

Does anyone use their RS6 this way? Can the air suspension be used to increase ride height? Is it good at dealing with some average surfaces / ruts?

It would be less than 5% of my use case so I can deal with it being a little uncomfortable but I’d like to avoid damage.

After a bit of research - I see the air suspension ones can have their ride height raised, and there’s a CETE module to control it further.

However all pics I see online are in lowered mode (for obvious reasons!)

Any chance someone can raise their car up and take a few snaps for me so I can get a visual of the max ride height for those pesky dirt roads?

Mine is having the module fitted this week so I’ll grab some pics.

I also find that using the Raise Car function in the MMI and Comfort Mode is perfect for dirt tracks as you describe. Never a hard ride.

I live down a potholed, single track country lane, so have to raise it up everytime I go in or out and it does the trick perfectly, never rubs or catches.

That's quite helpful audiBond, do you have to reduce your speed significantly with the low profile tyres / low ride height?

For potholes, ones I can't get around, I slow down for, the low profile tyres give a very firm thud is you hit a even a small one. Ride hieght is fine in the raised position, happy fo along at 30mph, occasionally once I get to the and turn onto a main road I'll forget to lower it down, but before I know it the car has dropped itself down. Not sure at what speed it automatically Lowers at but I've gotten up to 50mph and it's still in the raised position.
