Is now the wrong time to buy a RS6 ?

Post by Smarttech » Mon Dec 27, 2021 10:56 am

I have found a RS6 for sale at a used car sales place with most of the options I want on a 15 plate for £52k. It's a bit older than I would of liked but finding a car with all I want extras wise is proving impossible so decided a slightly older car with the right bits could be the way to go.

I keyed the reg in on we buy any car and it came back as £38700 if I wanted to sell it which is making me think is it the wrong time to buy as I could potentially loose a lot of money in a short time if I wanted to get out of it.

I know prices of used cars are at a all time high at the moment but I work very hard for my money and wouldn't want to just loose loads for being impatient.

We Buy Any Car is only worth getting a valuation for a "normal car" (i.e. not your high-performance / specialist cars).

Put the reg of the car you like in as p/ex against something fancy on Autotrader - that will be a more reliable guide. Try Elite Carriage Company website - that's where I got my RS6 from, and he gave me slightly higher p/ex value for my TT RS that I traded in compared to the Autotrader valuation.

I had exactly the same debate. I did wait for 2 months from September to November, and then decided to take the plunge.

I based this on good cars going quickly, so when one I wanted did, I just went for it.

I did some research on previous prices, and took the logic/maths, that I got more for my last car, and the price to change was as much as that of 6 months to a year ago.

Your right Golfather ! The problem is prices are silly at the mo and to get a performance model for that money means a high mileage or very low spec. Also I want full leather and most PE models I find in the right spec have alcantera seats.

When the righ car comes up I will buy it but I'm not in a rush where I will pay over the top just to have it.

I had a similar conundrum and used car prices are insane still. Having studied many forums and read many opinions the realisation was no one could really predict when the prices will stabilise to what they were. We can all shout about it and the risk of course is you pay over the odds, it settles back down during your ownership and the neg equity is horrendous.
Ultimately its down to the individual but I figured I could be waiting a very very long time for prices to reduce so I just went for it.

If you monitor Audi Approved and AutoTrader they are definitely still selling quickly.

I've seen previously, this can also impact future prices, outside of market forces.

All these new owners are not going to let their cars go in the future for too low money. With such a niche car, there could be a drought of ones for future sale, if these owners are holding out for some higher prices. With this drought, prices will hold/rise....

I’m monitoring things closely as I never keep my cars for long. Mine is a non PE version but with an interesting background and isn’t a daily for me, if I decide to move her on end of this year maybe next then a highly specc’d, immaculate and proper ‘low miles’ (have to say ‘low miles’ is a very abused saying) will help a very strong residual price.
Time will tell I guess-I’ve certainly got it wrong in my car purchases before that’s for sure!
