Hey everyone - first time poster here. (Wish i'd been on here before i bought my car but here we are....)
Bought a car about 5 weeks ago from a dealer other end of the country. It's mainly stored undercover, but over xmas hols had its first test of continuous rain - and ended up with soaking wet passenger and drivers side footwell (mainly passenger - extending from front to rear).
Also had 2x check engine coolant warnings since purchase - been through about 4L of diluted coolant over the space of about 2k miles driven - feels like a lot?
Spoke to the dealership (i'm still in touch with them so won't name them) - they said take it to local Audi specialist (i'm 5hrs away from the dealer) and let us know what they say. Dealer told me "don't worry about it mate, we're not going anywhere, we'll look after you, etc" - OK cool.
(On delivery of car they never supplied me with any warranty documentation and when i asked over the phone they just said don't worry - we'll look after you - for now i'm giving them the benefit of the doubt rather than pushing for warranty docs as i think things could sour quite quickly if i start pushing for that).
Estimate from local garage to fix:
Cracked cartridge in the roof causing the leak - replace: £1060 + VAT
RS6 light on door inlay dead due to water leak - replace: £534 +VAT
Labour: £1200 + VAT
Plus any clips required est £75 + VAT
Water pump (coolant leak), seals & labour: £475
Total = £3344 + VAT = £4013
So i'm left 5 weeks after buying a 4/5 year old RS6 with estimated repairs totalling £4k - sounds extortionate to me, is it? Is £1200 labour reasonable to replace a roof cartridge?
Dealership thinks it's an extortionate quote and have said they will take the car back and do the fixes - they're not being the easiest to get hold of but on the face of it that sounds OK to me? Problem is they are likely to want to do it on the cheap and do a patch up job and not replace the cartridge I would assume?
Basically I don't know what to do / think, not sure who to trust, and not really sure where this leaves me.
I'm going to leave the dealership nameless for now as i'm giving them the benefit of the doubt that they weren't aware of these issues and are going to make good on their word of fixing the car - let's see - but this has soured the experience of buying a £60k+ car to say the least.
Appreciate any input or advice
Thanks
Leaking roof & engine coolant
Re: Leaking roof & engine coolant
Not great...
However in my view RS6 ownership rule number 1, it MUST have an Audi warranty on it, i dont have the time or patience for anything else, I am sure others on here will say rubbish you can get that done for fifty quid, but in my view anything happens with my car, goes to any Audi workshop and i get a free replacement car....

Yea well I'll certainly be doing this in the future
Re: Leaking roof & engine coolant
My view would be to give the garage you bought the car from the chance to fix the issues, there are some very good independents around, if its one of those then you should be fine, depending on the age of the car as well, you might be able to get an official Audi warranty after that..
Re: Leaking roof & engine coolant
Thanks - looks like I could pay to take that out. Would the Audi warranty typically cover the issues I've described? I've seen posts online suggesting sunroof/water leaks are not covered.markjo77 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 12, 2022 3:39 pmMy view would be to give the garage you bought the car from the chance to fix the issues, there are some very good independents around, if its one of those then you should be fine, depending on the age of the car as well, you might be able to get an official Audi warranty after that..
Re: Leaking roof & engine coolant
Overall cost does sound high. Where they have got £534 for a door light is really strange. The sunroof cassette is labour intensive and needs all the a,b,c,d pillar trims and both trunk side panels removing. After that its straight forward. Bear in mind its plastic and the new one can crack and leak again if its not been fitted correctly or was twisted and fractured during install.
Let the supplying dealer sort it for you.
I dont think the extended warranty covers the sunroof anyway

Re: Leaking roof & engine coolant
What a nightmare - can you get a second quote?
However I did break my own rule a few months ago, when I looked to save some money outside the Audi network, with the prices so high. Unfortunately, the car did turn out to not be as expected, so I just returned it 10 days later - which they had to accept.
Eventually, I ended buying the replacement from the Audi network, which covered itself when the work they did under the Used Approved Checks was expensive.
Totally agree with this - I learnt a long time ago, you get reassurance from a manufacturer warranty, when an M5 required over £30,000 of work!markjo77 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 12, 2022 1:39 pmHowever in my view RS6 ownership rule number 1, it MUST have an Audi warranty on it, i dont have the time or patience for anything else, I am sure others on here will say rubbish you can get that done for fifty quid, but in my view anything happens with my car, goes to any Audi workshop and i get a free replacement car....
