Not sure why Audi would say that as Max is literally that - as much oil as is allowable in the engine - any more and you would need to have the excess vacuumed out. In the middle or just above is spot on.

Don’t have a clue but when oil always full you get lubricated everything

Anything in between min and max is fine. Don't worry about it.

When it gets to minimum its needs 1.5 litre top up. Burn rate is dependent on how hard you push the car.

Dealer said to me a while ago that it takes 1 litre to go from min to max - even if that advice is wrong I’d err on the side of caution; fill with 3/4 of a litre if the gauge is at min and see where that takes you. Too much oil is also bad for any engine. I have never seen my oil gauge move - i get the oil changed yearly regardless of the miles and presumably my gauge is working as it would have ground to a halt by now.

So you say you always have oil on max and it’s not dropping till next oil fill?

Yes, I have never seen the level move. I am still relatively low miles at 20K in 7 years. I NEVER put the foot down until the oil is above 92degc, regardless of the tachometer LEDs. Also as I mentioned in post a few years ago I run the car in the way we were advised to run our kart racing engines in - once hot run it hard to get any remaining roughness in the barrels to hone the piston rings to conform to the bores- which we did in the first days of getting the car. Debatable if there is much roughness left when Audi deliver the car but so far it seems to have worked out for me. I think I did about 8K miles in my first 2 years but now I am only doing 1K miles or so per year - regardless of the miles I get the oil changed annually so maybe i am using oil now but just not enough miles to realise it but again I never saw it move when I was doing 8K miles per year.

P.S. My wife’s Q5 2.0TDI (+10years old) had the same run in treatment and it never uses a drop of oily either (45K miles- annual oil servicing) - “unusual” for a diesel apparently.

Wow, 20k in 7 years, so it’s very low, maybe that’s why you don’t see oil drop, I do 15.000km per year
