Tyre noise

Post by Markp » Fri Oct 06, 2017 8:44 am

Anyone with lots of motorway miles under their belts switched from noise reduction tyres to normal ones and noticed much difference? I know Michelins et al are better than the Pirelli but I am now doing a lot of long distance work and would like to keep the refinement - are normal tyres really any noisier at speed?

I changed from factory Dunlops with foam inside (noise reduction) to winter Dunlops without foam last year and didn't notice much difference at all.

I changed from the Dunlops to Michelin MPSS and haven't noticed any difference in tyre noise. I'm usually listening to the exhaust or music anyway!

I have change my rears from dunlops to Michelin and haven't noticed any difference in noise yet. To be honest I've never noticed any sort of tyre noise in any car as I always have music on.
Also, facelift cars have double glazed front windows so I expect that reduces the amount of noise heard in the car. I've only changed tyres recently so it might become more noticeable in the summer when the windows are open. But the exhaust and music will always drown it out anyway.
