Hot Brakes!!!

Post by shanek » Thu Jul 27, 2017 7:24 pm

Hi Guys,

I have had the pleasure a few times recently to have a blast about on a very quiet section of local roundabouts in my RS6 PE accompanied by my friend with his 997 GT3 and we have both had a really fun time on our own little 'race track'. I have to say, the RS6 certainly surpassed my expectation for how a 2 ton estate car should handle, stop and go!! The initial turn in (until the front tyres got over heated) and to some extent power on adjustability out of the corner were brilliant!!

However, as there are a good number of heavy braking areas on the 'circuit' where the car needed to be slowed from 3 figure numbers to negotiate the roundabouts, i pretty soon ran out of brake pedal!! The brakes themselves seemed to cope very well with the abuse but it felt to me like I boiled the brake fluid, stopping the fun prematurely.

Coming to my question, has anyone on here that either tracks their car or drives 'spiritedly' alot changed to a more performance based brake fluid with a higher boiling point and if so, has the brake pedal feel after extended use improved?

I look forward to any responses.

Just got back from an alpine detour to finish off the summer hols. Chamonix to matigny about 30km long. Brakes completly gone by the end of the slopes down to matigny. Juddering like mad. Stinking the car out to boot. Brakes were juddering a bit before this but now completly buggered ! Was contious to not ride the pedal either on the way down and gave it short sharp pedal presses then off again so with 4 people and luggage in a 2 ton car the brakes might be at their limit ? Did 3 laps of the ring earlier this year without a problem until last lap at very end of track felt the brakes were drastically diminishing.
Going to get skimmed with new ferodo pads and see if that helps but never thought about the brake fluid being an issue. ??? May look into it aswell as back at ring in september after visiting kempten in Germany.
