New RS6 PE Spec and other Questions

Post by LeapingDeere » Tue Jul 18, 2017 3:48 pm

Hello All,

I'm a B8 RS4 owner and pretty much made the man maths work out to order a RS6 PE before they close the order book. (which must be fairly soon I assume)

I think in years to come is going to be a future classic and want to experience it whilst I can afford it.

Looking at the base PE it's pretty well loaded IMHO.

The only specs I want is from the list

Audi Smartphone Interface
Electric panoramic glass sunroof
Parking Pack

Is the panoramic roof worthwhile? I was always a bit cynical towards them but my sister has one in her C220D coupe and I sat in it last quite liked it.

Is there anything I OUGHT to have? Bearing in mind Im not bothered about stereo systems. I had the dynamic package on the RS4 and didn't feel it added much. I much prefer to try the air suspension this time.

I will be running this for at least 4 years so will want it to be right.

Last question. Just curious about the cylinder deactivation system, when does it kick in? what mode and speed does it work up too etc?

Thanks.

Lots of personal choices there but I would spec the pano roof. I think you get Dynamic Pack Plus anyway as standard which contains DRC so keep it for the ceramics and sports exhaust. Beyond that I have park pack which is cool but could probably live without. Otherwise the PE models as well specced anyway. I'd go for on variant of the v spoke wheels too.

I also have carbon exterior pack which is very nice buy you could live without it.

I have the pan roof and never use it but it appears to be the biggest "must have" in the used car marketplace, so I guess that, whilst you might not get your money back on it directly when you sell the car on, it should make it more desirable compared to others on sale. And you might see some of the cash back for it, too.
Parking Pack is essential - you already have that.
The Phonebox - which also gives you a data connection to the car - is very useful and in keeping with a vcar of this value. I hardly use it but I wouldn't want to be without it.
ACC pack is essential, too, in my book. This is a car for covering great distances (quickly). ACC makes it so much easier.
Keyless entry is fantastic and I wouldn't want to be without it now. Just keep your keys somewhere safe when at home, not by the front door!

Cylinder Deactivation works well and is hardly noticable. Mine kicks in only on motorways when I am doing 60-90 but I understand that newer cars make greater use of it at speeds as low as 30mph, so there may have been some tweaks to it since my car was made.

What do they call the Phonebox spec in the options list?

I ditched the pan roof on my PE - not had one for several years and decided I could do without it if it meant I could get the car quicker as dealer had one in stock. Other must haves for me were Dynamic Pack, Parking Pack Advanced (inc surround cameras), ACC with Pre Sense Plus and Audi Connect/Smartphone interface. Oh... and it had to be Misano Red :bigblink:

It is the option that gives you Audi Connect services (online traffic, wifi hotspot, google maps and google search,etc.). Seems that they have changed the options names...

Under "Communication": Audi Connect and Audi Phonebox with wireless charging - £750.

Dynamic pack plus is defo not standard, it's something like a 10k option. Dynamic pack is not even standard.
But I couldn't have a car with air. I urge you to test drive a car with air and DRC before making your option. Big difference and not something you can retrofit.

As wildbore said, sunroof is something a lot of people are looking for on secondhand cars.
And parking pack advanced / plus is much better than the normal parking pack as it gives the 360 degree cameras.
And also as stated I'd defo go for the assistance package which gives you the adaptive cruise control.

I pretty much loaded mine when I ordered it in 2016, but I wish I had specced surround cameras, car is a lot wider than it looks, Audi wanted 2K to
retrofit Parking advanced, as I said, should have specced it.......!!!

Missed that, I thought the OP was specifying the full 360 camera, but no.

To the OP: The RS6 has limited steering lock and is enormous. It is like berthing a super tanker when you need to park it. 360 camera are essential and save your rims from damage

Personally - the only paid options I see as essential on a PE are...

- DRC (because the 'Air' is twitchy)
- Parking Pack (advanced if you want surround view, normal for just the rear camera)
- Pan Roof, to retain resaleability
- ACC pack if you do motorway/big miles

Everything else IMO is nice to have personal preference.

Can people who have driven both the DRC and air explain how the feel is different?

There's more roll with air, that's the main difference. If you want to throw it in to some corners, you need DRC. If you're going to waft up the motorway it's probably the wrong car anyway!
