£ 21" Wheel

Post by Iain » Wed May 31, 2017 5:02 pm

So.....had puncture last night in middle of country lane in the middle of nowhere in West Wales - VERY flat tyre!! had to drive 400yds to lay-by and pull in leaving the car overnight for Audi assist to flat bed it to Cardiff Audi, this morning. Vicki in service was her usual excellent self (looking more appealing than the R8 in the showroom too)

Long story short - they think the wheel might have buckled? drove 5mph 400 yds - any ideas as to price? They haven't confirmed the buckled wheel but they are thinking £1100-£1300 for a new wheel - titanium finish. I can get a set of the Ispiri wheels for the same money? anyone had to purchase a wheel before?

needs 2 tyres also as they won't supply and fit 1 tyre being the RS; rang Costco they said the same. :bash:

Yes Audi price is very high. I wouldn't normally mind as this normally means you get a strong and relatively light wheel. Bit these wheels are proving they are not strong at all and buckling with no obvious impacts.
If you want a new wheel look on eBay.de. search for rs6 21 felgen original

Had to replace a 21" '5-twin-spoke' gloss black alloy 4 days after taking delivery. Swerved to avoid an errant animal and the rear tyre and edge of the alloy caught a kerb stone loosened by the front wheel passing over said bit of concrete. At least I can confirm that the tyre pressure monitoring system works a treat, although the huge bang kind of gave the game away.

£1,276.28p for the alloy, £406.38 for the Dunlop tyre (Audi price, I needed it in a hurry).

The car had done less than 400 miles so getting a single tyre changed wasn't a problem.

I'd be looking for second hand straight ones - any colour versus handing that £ over to them.
Just in principle alone I wouldn't buy one of them - they should be recalling them based on people's experience here!

I think I'd go aftermarket though tbh...

I would be inclined to fit a set of the aftermarkets.
Keep an eye on eBay and the forum for a spare/replacement.

When you come to sell the car put the factory wheels on the car and sell the aftermarkets to get a chunk of your money back.

Sheep ? I heard dogs or something ? Benefit of an estate perhaps ?

You can get it straightened.. Just had all four of mine done.. 250 quid.. Was perfect after! The place I went to is doing them all the time. I used my alloys in Basingstoke.. I'd recommend.

I have also just used myalloys for another car and they did an excellent job. Lovely people. Would highly recommend them for all alloy work.

Good news you can get them straightened at a decent place. Only problem is, they'll bend again, and again.........

Hi,

I got a similar issue. The wife drove the car last week and managed to kerb the front passenger wheel quit badly. I got a quote to repair the wheel, which i intend to do as I have not experienced any issues with my wheels in terms of buckles or any other imperfections caused by the lovely roads here in the UK.

The unfortunate part is that the tyre wall was damaged as well. It is hard to judge if it is safe or not to keep on using. To be on the safe side, I intend to replace the tyre, but the question is if the car requires a new tyre on the drivers side as well to keep the circumference the same? I haven't measured the thread depth, but it is a good life in the tyres, at least 5mm I would say.

Women and kerbs eh  My missus smashed into a kerb on Friday night, kerbed the wheel badly, tyre was a write off but she still managed to get it home. Come through the door crying about the wheel and the tyre. Wheel was changed with a new tyre first thing Saturday morning. Saturday afternoon, she done the EXACT same thing to the opposite wheel and tyre, big chunk out the wheel and the tyre and an instant flat.

I was actually speechless at the stupidity, I never said a word to her or I no doubt would have been murdered

Anyway, looking at that sidewall in your pic, yep, that tyre needs changing. The RS6 is a big heavy car and those tyres come under a lot of stress. As to whether you need to change the other one with 5mm remaining, Hmm. In theory and for what's best, I'm sure you know the answer. In practical and reality, tough one to justify. Measure the other two tyres to see if there's a better match available, one may be at 7, the other at 6. Pair the new 8 and 7 together and the 5 and 6 together. It would be very minimal difference.
