Pre facelift cars.

Post by Smarttech » Thu Dec 29, 2016 11:11 pm

Today I went and looked at a 66 plate RS6 PE demo with the idea of buying it but after doing the maths have decided that I can't justify spending that sort of money on a car that I would struggle to do 5k miles a year in as it would just be a weekend toy.

Do I need 600 bhp NO do I need brand new NO. So I have started looking at pre facelift cars on 14/64 plates as 560 bhp is more than enough power and I save about £30k

What I would like to know is there anything to look out for on the earlier cars and anything to avoid ? Plus are their options on fl cars that weren't available on pre fl cars.

Thanks in advance for the help.

There were a few things that became standard on facelift that were optional on pre facelift like the double glazed front windows, LED matric headlights (can't remember if matrix was even an option on pre facelift) but for the main part there were more options on pre facelift I think eg you had a choice of 2 gear knobs on pre (one was horrid though), the exclusive interior option disappeared on facelift, the option of TV became only possible on facelift if you got the rubbish seats and rear entertainment pack

After deciding I don't want to spend what a new one will cost me due to the amount of use it will get I started looking at second hand and found a 14 reg which has most of the options list ticked apart from ceramic brakes. 1 owner and 19k miles on a Audi forcourt. But the only thing I'm not sure of is the Matte Daytona grey paint finish.
Yes it's different but that lack of shine might just drive me mad.

Aren't ceramic brakes a bit of an issue on the pre-FL cars, or was there a 'recall' for them?

Matt Paint is cool to look at on Instagram but i'd never spec it as i'd worry about looking after it long term. Inevitably, it will also go out of fashion and become hardly to sell as the years roll on.

I went new because it was actually cheaper than a year old car when you factored in the discount you can get.

I looked at a new performance model yesterday but at £94k and the salesman saying if you agree buy the car we will work out a better price I decided to walk away.

I'm not in a rush to buy one so will keep my eye open for any amazing deals on new or look at a second hand one with the right spec.

Same as Rob, when I went to buy the 2nd hand cars were selling for more than new. And more importantly, the Performance had only just been announced so no 2nd hand ones.
My spec came to 94k but actual price after discount was 78k so don't be put off by the new prices.

I looked at new, basic spec was coming up at £69k on Carwow with discount and if you took finance (which I don't like doing).

Biggest problem is if you buy new delivery will be after March which falls in the new road fund bracket which on the RS6 is £1800!!!!!

I went for an 18 month old car in the end, new price was way over £90k so I saved at least £30k and got a cracking motor with 6k miles :bigblink:

I also looked at pre FL cars but for the extra £5k I feel the FL will hold its value better and I don't think the pre 2015 lights have aged well, plus the "matrix" headlights are fantastic in the dark!

Good luck, the RS6 is an epic car, I'm just going out for a blast in mine to fill it up for the 3rd time in a week :beerchug:
