Changing Wheel Colour / Alternative Wheels
Changing Wheel Colour / Alternative Wheels
Hey Guys,
I'm now collecting my RS6 from London on Tuesday and am keen to evaluate my options re the wheels.
The car I've bought has the non-PE 5 Twin-Spoke 21"s in Grey (Polished Alloy), but given the car is Panther Black I'd much rather have black wheels. Is there any way to re-paint / dip / modify the wheels in some way to essentially convert them from the current colour to the gloss black version (or even make them matt black?) and if so, has anyone had any experience doing this? I know I could buy a set of the 21"s in Gloss Black from eBay but I wondered if I could get similar(ish) results for considerably less money by modifying the current wheels.
Alternatively, what are peoples thoughts on alternative wheels altogether? I've looked at loads of other threads with ADV1 / Vossen / various other options but they all seem to be £5k - £10k for a set which I can't really stretch to at the moment. I like the look of the Raywell JRR's in Gloss Black (http://www.raywelldesign.com/shop/20%E2 ... -black-a6/) but they only seem to come in 20" which I wasn't sure about. Open to any suggestions and appreciate any / all guidance!
Cheers.

Hehe still not sure if that thread is a wind-up or not! Even if it isn't, doesn't help with me with the 'I want black wheels' issue.
Re: Changing Wheel Colour / Alternative Wheels
Easy enough to get them re-finished in any color you like. Probably cost £65-75 per wheel.
On the aftermarket side for any forged wheels you would be looking at 5-6k plus. Luke at Plush has a set of AG Forged carbon / dark titanium wheels that looked great in the flesh which is is selling at a good price.
There is also a set of Black round style ADV1s on Instagram for sale..

I'd jump on those Vossens in the classifieds from golfather, and get them refinished how you like. Pretty sure it's not a wind up, just a really bad attempt at selling them haha.
Having done black on black on my RS4 though, it was a bit too much IMO. Thought about Audi titanium grey?

Re: Changing Wheel Colour / Alternative Wheels
Do you want them all black or black and polised like they come from factory? If it is all black then it is easy and any refurb place can do it. If you want the polished face then you need to find a place that does a good diamond cut finish which is much harder, plus it needs to be sealed / laqcuered properly otherise the unpainted surface will rust. Not worth doing in my opinion, you'd be better off buying a set like that from factory (plenty about) and then selling yours after swapping the tyres over.
Or buy Golf's wheels. The advert is genuine believe it or not, I saw him advertise them on ebay too. I'm very tempted by them, but still like my OEM wheels for now and don't have a spare £2k.

Re: Changing Wheel Colour / Alternative Wheels
Thanks for the replies guys.
As much as I agree that the Vossen's golf is selling are a good deal, having just bought the car (and considering I'm looking for a milltek system, spacers, remap etc in the near future) I can't really justify the expense. Andy, appreciate the links to those two sets of wheels but neither of them are quite 'my style' unfortunately.
To your question Mike, literally looking for nice and easy all black (pretty much exactly like in danilo's pictures). Was hoping it would be fairly easy and sounds like it is which is great.
Faisal, appreciate the point re black on black perhaps being too much and think the titanium grey looks great on your RS4 but I've seen a few pictures of a panther black C7 RS6 which all black wheels (which I can't bloody find now!) and really liked the look of it, so hoping it'll turn out alright.
I know that by the sounds of it this alloy re-paint can be done by any one of many outfits, but I live in Jersey in the Channel Islands and our options are pretty limited here when it comes to this sort of stuff (hence my general ignorance!) - I'm picking the car up on Tuesday in London and driving down to Poole to catch the ferry home on Wednesday, can anyone recommend somewhere that could do this for me whilst I'm in the UK (in the general London / South-West area)?
Thanks for all your help / thoughts guys.

I doubt any outfit could re-furb them in the proper manor, within that tiny time scale.
I've used these guy's below for a custom colour and they were really great. The owner Tom is hands on and maybe able to try and accommodate your needs?

Re: Changing Wheel Colour / Alternative Wheels
Thanks for the Lepsons recommendation Mike.
Al, that colour combination looks awesome. Good work!
Thanks for the recommendation Sam - appreciate the timescale is super tight but can't really do anything about that unfortunately (the joys of living in Jersey!). Will speak to the guys at Chichester Cars and see if / what they can do.

Re: Changing Wheel Colour / Alternative Wheels
I would have got the Vossens, which aren't expensive if you go for non-forged version, if it weren't for them not clearing the carbon ceramic brakes. Given they are a 21" wheel, they are actually pretty cheap. It's just when costing with a new set of tyres, and tyre pressure sensors.
I personally don't like refurbs. Even the good places can't replicate a brand new wheel, so if you're dead set, i'd get the ones off eBay and then sell yours.
Lastly, can't see why you feel the need to remap the car so soon after getting the car? I also find it a bit ironic that you don't want to stretch to expensive wheels yet you fine to open yourself up to all sorts of potential (and expensive) problems once you start tinkering with engines and taking them out of their warranty.

Re: Changing Wheel Colour / Alternative Wheels
Congrats on the RS6! I thought you might have yours already as I saw a new Black RS6 last weekend. I think there are three including mine on island now. Another Daytona grey driven by an old chap and this new black RS6 that I saw last weekend. Didn't catch what wheels he has on it though.Hacquoil wrote:Hey Guys,
