1st Service

Post by Zeebuilder » Fri Jul 22, 2016 3:11 pm

The first service now due and I've had the quote from Audi below.

Has any one else had theirs recently and how does that compare?

I've heard a few things about supplying your own oil etc does anyone have a link or info on where to buy.

Yes I seen that the other day but if taking oil to the dealer it will have to be Quantum Synta Gold. I doubt they would use after market oils or filters? Has any one any experience doing this?

I started a thread on first service cost a while back. I am on the long service interval and so the first service was at 18,000 miles. I paid £560 all in, so I was quite happy with that price. The oil was indeed a bargain £180 of that cost.

What is long service interval? It says in the book every 9000 miles or 12 months for oil change??

I know that I had seen this before but could not find it hence my post. I would normally just hand her in and be done but having read these previous posts even s saving of £80 would fill her up with fuelImageImage

A spare 1 litre can of Castrol Edge was supplied by the Factory when mine was delivered in May so that is exactly what the Factory is using and therefore I am using it from now on.

FWIW, I source all my oils from Opies online - Paid £147.80 for 4 x 5 litre cans CE Titanium 5w-30 LL FST incl VAT and delivery 2 months back.

Trying to get mine booked in for an oil change. Got the oil myself (Castrol Edge - as thats what was in the top up bottle provided) as it was half the price Audi wanted.

Even at £160 for the rest of the service, they cant find time to fit the car in for an hour until the 7th September.

Tried local VW (same dealership JCT600), and they "can't reset the service indicator, so it would have to go to Audi). Seems to me like they want the expensive cars going to the expensive dealerships, so they can continue having people pants down on the oil price.

Any real issues with taking to a good indy garage for an oil change? As long as the book gets stamped up and Ive got the receipts for what oil went in it.

For me the issue with non-Audi servicing is the issue of goodwill later down the line. Clearly anything covered by the waranty should still be covered as long as it was serviced by a VAT registered garage but beyond that, you are more likely to get bits not covered by the waranty done for free or at a reduced rate if you have full Audi service history.

By the time they can fit in the oil change, Ill be some 400-500 miles over the time when it stated it needed an oil change. Then again, I guess if thats the soonest they can fit me in, then they cant expect me to stop using the car.

As an aside, im noticing that the car has two service intervals showing. One for the oil, and one for the "inspection". Am I right in thinking the latter is the "service", and the former is just a basic oil change as the car has decided it needs changing due to quality etc.

In which case is there any real reason not to change it myself, and just reset the oil change indicator using the MMI (which you can do without entering any special menus etc). Does this actually require a delear visit at all? Is it recorded anywhere?

Yes, it's an oil and filter change in essence. But it's still recorded and if you don't have the stamp you lose FASH and it will definitely impact goodwill. It needs to be recorded for warranty also.
