Right team I just wanted to update you as I finally have closure on this one.
MRC were absolute super stars today, letting me try out a few random experiments to get to the bottom of the vibration.
Turns out, we only needed to do one thing to figure out the problem - swap rear wheels to the front and vice versa. If the issue was truly in the rim it should disappear as a vibration through the steering wheel (and move to the chassis, at worse). And guess what? It did. It was such a small vibration you actually can't feel it at all.
So we know the issue was the slightly buckled front rim (now back rim) and will need replacing. Pretty disappointing as car only 5 months old (to me anyway, its a Sept 14 car) !!
Kudos to Doug for his patience in taking the car out to find that 'buzz' in the wheel - life is so much better when people are willing to give you the time to really understand your issue. And it confirmed I wasn't going mad. And it helped Doug know when things were genuinely 'fixed'.
So, not a tyre foam issue for me....but a big bill coming my way for a rim. Boo
Do you find your steering wheel (too?) "alive" / "firm"?

I had a similar problem recur after another 1,500 miles, this time not as pronounced as the first tyre vibration, felt more like a mild engine misfire between 50mph and 70mph, but definitely wasn't the engine.
Took it back in and the dealer checked the balance on all tyres and found the two rears had gone out and after removing the tyres, the foam on those had also detached. Replaced them and let Audi & Pirelli know.
Either I'm unlucky and got a bad batch, or the fourth and fourth and final tyre that still hasn't gone yet will go.
First tyre went at 1,700, second two around 4K.

Without reading through this all again, is this all happening with a single make of tyre or is it all 3 of them? I've had no problems so far with my Dunlops (nearly 5000 miles).

So far, for me anyway, three Pirellis all having their sound deadening foam detach internally and throwing the wheels out of balance.

I worry now that the vibration I am getting on braking is also down to this as I have pirellis as well. Will get them to check before they flip the rotors off mine. 5k miles.garyturner wrote:So far, for me anyway, three Pirellis all having their sound deadening foam detach internally and throwing the wheels out of balance.
