If I have a stage 1 on the car, and this is picked up by Audi and the drivetrain warranty voided, then fine, I can live with that. I want to know what happens when I come to trade it in a couple of years later against a C8 RS6, or another car.. Surely this has to affect trade in values, or even the ability to trade into a VAG dealer at all?
A mute point when the car is 36 months old, it will naturally have no warranty left rendering a TD1 flag meaningless.

If you were to trade in earlier than that with a TD1 logged on Audi central servers, swap the RS6 for an M5 or an AMG, their diagnostics systems would never pick up on Audi 'black' flags.

Maybe not, but the new owner would know if they had an issue. Not sure I agree with the ethics there.

It's a good point & i can only answer with my thoughts/opinion. As & when i move my car on i'd be returning the car to stock as it will be going back to BMW. It's a 10min job for DMS so no skin of anyone's nose. I hear reference of this TD1 & i'm sure their must be some fact within the stories, however it's not a thing that auto happens when your Audi goes into a dealer as far as i know, so a Stage 1 car would not by default become a naughty Audi on their systems, so assuming it was returned to a stock ECU state or sold to the next owner as a Stage 1 tuned car then i don't see any issues.

My curiosity is some of the comments on here are trying to point towards dishonesty & i'm not sure where that opinion eminates. I'm sure some folk over the years have bought tuned Audi's & not realised, but i doubt they're AUC vehicles & i'd hazard a guess in the main an oversight. I regularly see cars for sale on here & PH etc. that are being sold AS modified cars & certain marques such as the R35 GT-R would in the main be tuned cars.

I'd again assume (but i really don't know for sure) if the Audi was returned to stock that any marker should it have existed can be removed when the car can be seen to be back as stock.

Audi wouldn't remove a marker because it has been run with modifications. They can't vouch for the extra wear and tear this could have subjected the car to.

I'm fairly certain that a VAT dealer would run any car through their diagnostics system before agreeing to take it in. After all they will have to stick 12 months warranty on it when the flog it on. And they won't want to warranty a tuned car.

This TD1 flag issue goes way beyond the immediate (and fairly straight for ward imho) affects on the current warranty.

That's a fair point.

I'm still highly dubious about this TD1 naughty flag, as i've certainly never personally experienced it & have had many modified Audi's (4 in total) or heard from anyone else i know who has modified Audi's. Is it a very new thing? how's it triggered as surely it's not simply as soon as a tuned car's plugged into the Dealers Diag machine the alarm bells go off?

I've used DMS loads of times over the last ten years and none of my cars have missed a beat and it's been a great bloody ten years!

Rob supplied and fitted a Akrapovic and custom map on my C7 and it's now running 728bhp, I've had some, very, very fast cars but this takes the pi$$ mate!!! :biggrin3:

We'll all be a long time dead, map your car and laugh every time you plant the loud pedal!

New C7 Power upgrade

Post by doodlebug » Thu Sep 17, 2015 10:22 pm

Not for me, it's a family car and I don't want the hassle if things go wrong, which with an Audi they will. Been there got the t-shirt, it's stressful and time consuming.

When I want a faster car, I'll buy a faster car!

As has been said, claiming on the warranty for a knackered piston when you have a mapped car, is not going to fly. A faulty speaker or door lock etc has not been caused by, nor has it arisen from or is it connected to the engine map. Therefor would be covered.

They are highly likely to run it through a diagnostics and stick a td1 on it anyway, which then may cause issues with resale/trade in etc but that's a whole other question mark.
+1
That's strange as is what i've been saying & argues your earlier point S4WON of a blanket warranty refusal for a modified car.
Aye, i'm just bored of the same old <beep> from the same old people. Done with this thread.

Good info but still curious, as i've said above i have friends with tuned (newish) S/RS's & their cars are not sat on the Audi naughty step, so what's this 'Online" system referred to in the vwvortex post?

Is it simply the dealers diagnostic computer spots this & throws the flag whenever the car's connected to it (basically anytime it goes into the dealers) or is it further up the chain being the 'Audi AG' systems? Also does it need looking for or does it surrender itself (if that makes sense)?

Purely curious as although i've heard of this TD1, in the real world i've not encountered anyone who's been a victim of it.

That said, i don't think anyone would argue the toss with Audi or their dealers if they refuse to honour a warranty claim for a failure that can be linked to the tune or modification & thus why you'd then be looking at the tuner to put things right, although i hazard a guess you'd be going to the Tuner initially if you felt the fault could have been caused by the modification.

When I bought my C6 back in 2012 it flew, when I had it checked it had an Unknown remap on it, 3 days after it went in for warranty work as there where a few issues with it that I didn't notice on the test drive.

Engine wise what was replaced was Fans (they just stayed on even on a cold start and the only way they went off was when the battery went flat), oil sensor (common fault when serviced) a few other little niggles but the bill was close to 4k for the work, They didn't say nothing to me about the map as at this time I didn't know it had one. a Year later when I took it in for a service the tech said has it been mapped as when he took it for a drive it felt faster, I was like no idea, was there a anything on the system and he was like no.

Unsure how it is on the newer models. I know bmw are hot on it as my mate is a tech and he said they will put a marker that flags up everytime the reg is entered.

BMW are clearly NOT hot on it.

I really do think a lot of this is smoke the dealers/service mechanics like to blow up customers ar$es. As above, my experiences with Audi & BMW have been very different over the years & across many different models & in the main nothing but a positive experience. I'm sure horror stories exist, but again it could be more about disgruntled customers firing the blame at a dealer rather than facts of the matter.

Hey ho however & each to their own.
