C7 RS6 vs S8 Plus

Post by V8RS6 » Sun Aug 16, 2015 7:15 pm

Its that time of the year again and I'm thinking of changing my C7 RS6. A very difficult decision because its easily the best car I've ever owned.
I am so tempted to change to the S8 Plus and as part of my decision making process I'd like to ask if anybody else is equally tempted...and for what reasons?
My dealer is expecting full specs to be available Oct/Nov with UK deliveries due Q2 next year.
I've driven the normal S8 and was almost tempted when I placed my order for my second RS6, the S8 is a completely different driving experience, mainly because it was a much more 'relaxing' drive. But now it seems a no-brainer....more powerful than the stock RS6 and with more toys. I'm having real difficulty justifying the need to carry wardrobes in the back this time round.....am I missing something?

+1. Being a fan of Saloons rather than estates & having had several A8/S8's, i'm chomping at the bit with the prospect of this new S8+. Already started dialogue with my local dealer.

Although Audi will likely launch an RS6+ at some point in the lifecycle, if the previous incarnations are to be followed it will only get a marginal power uplift (30bhp) & a sudo limited edition badge along with likely the £10k price hike. So ignoring the badge it's nothing that £1k at MRC or the like couldn't sort for you.

The biggest shocker about the 8's is their weight, as although a much bigger car they weigh little or no more than the 6's due to the ASF, so make for a very interesting drive & if you can get in at the right price as they as all cars in that category do like to freefall in the depreciation dept. then they're a fantastic proposition.

I'm the same, have always preferred saloons to estates. In the last 18 months I've owned 2 x RS6's and have never folded the rear seats down once.
I was recently collected from Heathrow in a new S Class Merc and the drive quality was more to my liking (getting older is my excuse) but it seems that the UK 4-Matic version is still another 2 years away. So to me at least it seems that this new S8 Plus will tick all the boxes, the only downside is a cassette roof instead of a panoramic roof. But the new S8 does have a solar roof that operates an integral air conditioner so even that base is covered. Residuals are a real concern though and in that respect my RS6 has been kind to me, I really don't understand why the Avants seem to fare better.
