Newbie - New Order - Problem already

Post by flying_haggis » Wed Aug 05, 2015 2:01 pm

Hi Guys,

I’m new to the forum, but like many others have stalked around here taking sage advice from the members. I have been eying up the RS6 for some time and trying to work out whether I go for a second hand one or not. I managed to get a great deal with a particular North London Audi dealer for a Daytona Grey RS6. The order was placed on Monday on the basis that they had managed to get me a Week 39 build slot. Seemed too good to be true. The dealer phoned back the next day to say the build week had been pushed to Week 50 by Audi UK – and that there had been a system error on the Monday. I’ve even seen the email from Audi UK confirming a week 39 build date – so the dealer is in the clear here. The dealer has apparently gone “as high as they can go” at Audi UK and are still getting the same week 50 build week. Apparently they have put me onto a VIP list – meaning if there were any cancellations, I would be pushed up the priority list. I have left it with the dealer for 24 hours “to remedy or I will cancel the order” – doubt it will have much of an effect.

A couple of questions for those in the know:

1. Is there such thing as a VIP priority list?
2. August 15 to January 16 – is this a fairly normal build time (from searching around on this forum there seems to be a huge disparity)
3. Should I be taking this up with Audi UK rather than letting the dealer do it?

Order spec is quite basic:

Daytona Grey Pearl
Added – Privacy windows, Advanced Park and Sports Exhaust

Currently in a v low mileage B7 RS4 Avant (which will be up on here when / if I get round to getting a new car).

Thoughts and feedback much appreciated.

1. Yes, Audi UK can prioritise but ultimately builds are controlled by the factory so there is only so much AUK can actually do.

2. Yes, people have waited longer, including me.

3. Doesn't do any harm to do so though do not expect wonders.

Have you tried other dealers? Likely to be one out there who will have an earlier build or cancellation.

Yes they can fast track certain orders/builds

We had this when in 2008 we had an early TT vert on order for the Mrs

It effectively got written off on the boat on the way over so they express built new one, Audi UK put us in a brand new Q7 and sent us both to Audi experience at Silverstone. This was all sorted by dealer, I didn't need to do anything.

My RS4 build slot kept going back so again Audi put me in a brand new Q7 between I sold mine and new one arrived.

Worth hassling. For sure

Did you get at least a 14% discount? Buy through carwow? If not, cancel it while you have the excuse and go again.

Theres no loyalty in 80k purchases, at least not for me :)

There's no massive loyalty in the brand full stop. Audi is now about volume.

Audi 2008 offered way better customer service.

Thanks guys. Disappointing to hear that this has now become the norm, you would have expected a bit more at this end of the production line. Yes, went through carwow and got just over 14% off. Maybe worth going back out to that market again, although I only got 2 quotes for 14% saving. Any other dealers that you know of at this level?

Let's see if there's any news from Audi tomorrow - although I think I have managed my own expectations now.

Flying-don't get too fed up-there seems a huge disparity on delivery times, I placed my order in November 2014 and got a date of 3rd week in March-I just chilled out and the car came in spot on with timing-85 k car, exclusive paint other goodies--so why the huge differences,is it I wonder dealer influence,I don't know but what I do know it was worth the wait.must admit I wish I had looked at this forum way before I bought my C7
because some of the discounts talked about are mind boggling, can't remember what I got but certainly not 14 %.Try to be patient--the car is immense.

Also, don't be afraid to look at M5/E63/Masser/Panamera. There are better deals to be had with other brands and some, though not all will give you better service.

The RS6 is immense, but, if I had my time again I'd buy a 991TTS.

I had the first UK build for a facelift RS6, built in Dec, not delivered until March. Original order was Feb 2014, due to what can only be described as a fiasco my first car wasn't built.

Doodle, clearly a 991 isn't really apples with apples though. What are/were your main gripes with the 6?

Well, 991 seats two plus kid(s) with room for some luggage. It's a common progression, but I take your point.

The utter fiasco that is Audi service now, i.e. non-existent. They want to sell you a car, any car. I'll not buy another now purely for that reason, at the 100k price point I do not expect the run around. It's another reason that I struggle with R8 and its pricing, I cannot get past the service.

Fine I had a free car for five months and extra discount plus some other bits, and that's great. But it doesn't take away from the initial fiasco, and I am certainly not unique.

Hard to argue with that, sadly. Still I think the C7 is a big step forward, platform wise

Agreed, it's miles ahead of C6 as a package. But the ownership proposition has gone further backwards than the product has forwards.

Doodle, I must admit I am starting to wonder about service +efficiency--I booked my C7 for a health check yesterday-bin with the same dealer for some 14 years-they couldn't find my car on their system-what !!!! asked for the chassis no,said it was on the windscreen--not there ??
couldn't trace it either through my address-what the hell !!I am having strong words on Saturday when I take the car in. Looked at all 4 cars you mention, said no to them all--closest I got was the Panamera but to get anything close to the C7 by way of performance and spec would cost about 125 k--I thought about that for about a minute !!! M5 see other threads on the forum, did test drive an M4= plastic, engine noise through the speakers-no I don't think so- Merc,I know someone who has one=tyres in 4500 miles, Massa, performance way off 1200 to £ 1500 for a service.
there is something about the C7 I can't explain, all in all superb value for money, bit unstable I will admit--obviously I seem to be biased.

to the OP, i would also look to people like Broadspeed as well - they found me a local dealer willing to put a decent deal together.

Also, (not sure where you are based but..) Bath and Kings Lynn have good reps, so worth speaking with them to see if they can put a deal together on a spec amendiable car (as there must be plenty already in the system and you are not going for cermaics and exlcusive paint which seems to be the main issues in prolonging any delivery) - as a large part of the discount comes from the finance and so that should be available pretty much at any dealer and whilst most dealers will not want to give much discount quite a few will match another dealer if pushed.

the C7 is a great car and worth a bit of wait...

Thanks guys, as ever some good advice here. I'm waiting to hear back from the current dealer, but in the meantime I have been calling around other dealers to see what they can do. Everyone is struggling to get to the sort of discount I've got. The problem here, as you all say, is that the C7 is peerless at the moment - what choice do we have but to wait!
