Facelift all black de-badge & newbie hello!

Post by dream_machine » Wed May 06, 2015 10:17 am

After putting on 1000 miles on the new family addition I finally managed to get around to de-badging it. Thought some of you might want some before and after pictures. A major improvement IMHO, a little less shouty and bit more subtly menacing.

Thanks to ERS35 who pointed me in the direction of Valetmagic in Camberley. Robbie there is a top guy who squeezed me in during the bank holiday and was very reasonable on parts and labour, would highly recommend! Apparently they have quiet a few RS6s pass through their doors and he was telling me of a Stage 2 tune (Millitek exhaust, new intakes and CPU tune) that takes the car to somewhere north of 700hp and 1000nm of torque!

As someone pointed out in a previous post I ought to put down some specs and options as a new owner:

2015 Facelift
Panther Black paint
Dynamic Package
Parking Pack Advanced
Carbon Styling
Convenience Pack
21 inch titanium-look (read grey) wheels
Mirrors in carbon
Pan roof
Sports exhaust
Privacy glass
Heated Seats
Red callipers
Advanced Key
Heads Up
B&O speakers

I have been thinking about upgrading the exhaust as the Audi sports exhaust leaves me a little underwhelmed when the valves are open. Millitek seems like a popular choice but that is not valved, and I would prefer a valved system so I can keep the dog and SO happy when I need to crawl to the park of the shops. Any suggestions for a good valved system that can be controlled through the OEM MMI? Ackrapovic perhaps?

Absolutely loving the car so far! But I have had 2 niggles with the beast so far, any advice would be appreciated!

- Brakes make an odd noise when any more than gentle braking force is applied. Not an unpleasant noise (not screechy or high pitched) just more like a whooshing sound. Anyone else experience anything like this. I am on normal metal brakes, not ceramics.

-Occasional jerky shifts between 1 and 2 gears. I have only done a 1000 miles in it so far so perhaps I just need to run the gearbox in more.

Very nice! Much better - although I am biased as I have done the same!.
Robbie is a top bloke and has worked a lot on my car.
Enjoy the motor

Is the Akra valved and do you control it through the MMI?

Honestly the best sounding one online I have found is Capristo but I would like to hear one in real life. Slim chances if that though, I have not seen anyone on this forum mention they have one fitted.

I used to own a 2013 A6 which had the Bose and as far as I understand that is the same as what is supplied in the RS6s, so I have had experience with both.

The biggest difference for me is that the B&O has a much flatter profile. I am not a big Bose sound fan, in particular how their bass notes tend to swallow up the details elsewhere. The difference is very noticeable IMHO and I do think the B&Os lend themselves to reproducing the music as the artist intended.

Another major difference is the lack of resonance or distortion at all volumes. The Bose in my A6 would falter at louder volumes and the speaker panels/housings would vibrate at certain frequencies (especially speech).

So there are differences and the B&O is a nicer system on the ears, but is it worth the extra 6k is a question only you can answer. Lets not beat around the bush, you are paying a lot for the brand name and the 'wow' factor those silly little pop up tweeters. Im sure if you went to Sextons they could build you a better sounding system for 6k. If you are the kind of person who uses a sub £50 set of headphones with your smartphone then Im sure the Bose would be fine as it does everything adequately enough to pass. For me personally, the distortion and the resonance in my A6 bugged me enough to upgrade to B&O and having done so (even though I know Im paying a lot for what it is) it was worth it.

Welcome to forum. I agree the Capristo sounds the nicest online. I have the sports exhaust too and have done just over 2000 miles. It is already getting louder and the burbles, bangs, barks etc are fantastic. I will wait until a few more thousand miles before deciding to change it for something louder!

Dream_machine thanks for that possibly the best summary and round up of the stereos. I understand what you mean i think the bose would be best suited to me like that extra bass. Also in regards to the exhaust i would start looking now but allow the exhaust to bed in as mentioned and ive experienced on 2 demos's i had first had 600miles on it later again demo 10k miles the difference in bangs pops and general sound was pretty noticeable. And from the videos i have seen Capristo FTW :beerchug: .

Thanks for the advice everyone! Did not realise that the OEM exhaust settles in that much, so I will definitely be looking out to hear how it matures.

In the meanwhile will try to decide on the exhausts. The more I listen online the better the Capristo sounds, does anyone living in the south-east/London have one installed?!?!

Also, does anyone have any idea on the cost of Capristo system? I know the Akra is the pricey and the Millitek is reasonable.

I think the Capristo is about half the cost of an Akra converting the EURO price on Capristo's website.
