Factory Collection?

Post by Chesterfield » Tue Aug 12, 2014 3:38 pm

I thought it may be worth asking the question, so I emailed Audi UK enquiring about factory collection. I was left a voicemail asking me to call back to discuss.. Ooohh Im now excited...

So, I call back and was very poliely told that Audi dont offer this any more. They stopped doing them "last year" apparently. The person I spoke to seemed to suggest this was for all customers, not just UK customers. One excuse was that "the car wouldnt have any road tax".

Amazing that BMW/Mercedes/Porsche all manage to offer this, but Audi don't.

Ive read that in the past some R8 customers have collected from the factory, but nothing recently.

Anyone have any further knowledge on this? Have I just been fobbed off from somebody that doesnt know his ar*e from his elbow?

I inquired about this for collecting the RS4 but was told they have stopped this down to insurance!
R8 customers were the last ones to have the privilege i believe,
Real shame IMO, thought this would make ordering and collecting a dream car even more special.

The way Porsche do it is .. Cars are temp registered in Germany and given 2 weeks of Insurance, you have 2 weeks to show up at your UK dealer, who completes the UK registration and you then get it insured properly etc .. So yeah I could see Insurance being the Issue for Audi

I had something similar once - basically, you can't get UK insurance on a car unless it is physically in the UK on the day the policy starts.

Audi are hiding behind a pile of lies.
It is the easiest thing in the world to do.
Go to factory, cars have 1. 2 or 4 week temp reg and insurance, then drive home, take to UK dealer and UK reg the car.
Like previous posters said, if the others do it why can't Audi?

COS.....

Cheers

My dealer saved me at least 4 weeks on the delivery of my RS6. After it left the factory it stood for 2 weeks at a railway depot in Germany then another week at German port. Finally when it arrived at Tilbury, dealer sent a private transporter to collect it for me. That saved it being transported halfway round the country before it got to the dealership. Not all dealers are plonkers 8)

another issues is that UK insurance ( I understands ) covers UK registered cars, however options exist for Audi to cover a Porsche do for a period. Its a cop out in my opinion.

I bought a Jag in Holland and thats how they managed it.

The evo long term R8 was factory collected recently and that showed German registered plates initially, and uk ones later
Like said above, other brands manage it (although bizarrely, still charge you a fortune for reducing their logistics costs), so why can't audi
Not something that really nterests me, but each to their own
