Mart, you're looking for reward, from a relatively fast road car, with the potential to mod a little, and your price range is in GTR GT3 range.....

Would you consider a V8 R8 ?? Talking to the guys on here who have owned them, they seem to tick all the boxes. Am I missing a requirement here?

Big fan of the R8, but I need space for childseats in the back, and very few dedicated sports cars offer this option, hence my limited choice of GTR & GT3. As the GT3 is based on the std Carrera shell, you can easily retro-fit rear belts in the back to accommodate seat belts easily enough.

Suspected that may be the case. Exactly the reason I would struggle with the R8 desire also.

Suggest you try before you buy... GTR is... "snug" for car seats.
It "fits" but might not be exactly the best.

Does the GT3 actually have rear seats? I know it has front isofix....
Just read you're refitting the belts... Worth looking at the type approval as if listed as 2 seats then you are in insurance hell.

GT3 has no rear seats or belts, but the shell comes with the original mounting points still in place, so they're easy enough to retro fit. Some insurers are a bit iffy, but others have no problem with what is a basic mod, as long as it's done professionally. Don't worry I've checked! :)

I love my GT-R and there is nothing on the market today that I would change it for:
+ It happily transports wife and kids (Child Seats)
+ It looks awesome
+ It goes like a rocket

+/- It gets attention

- The wide tyres and heavy rain impact confidence
- Tyres are at least £1500 a set
- Tuning seems to be trial an error

The biggest negative for me is that the forum does not have the same atmosphere as here. That alone is one of the biggest factors when I consider GT-R ownership.

I bought it to start doing trackdays again. Taking it to Cadwell on Saturday, so will see if it ticks the box.

Aha, an owner! Can u give me more insight in terms of how rewarding and involving it is to drive? I know it's fast and infinitely capable, but on the short drive I had in one it didn't feel like I was doing much apart from steering? It felt rather insulated and remote like u werent part of the action, rather just in a control tower telling the cr where to go. It flatered my ego and made me feel like a great driver when in reality I'm pretty average, albeit used to speed.

Is this accurate? Having owned the car now, does it become involving and rewarding in the pure driver sense?

Would be good to get your insights.

I wish I was a good enough driver to have the balls to get to the point where I'm wanting the car to tell me what it's doing and be able to respond appropriately. I guess it's always in the back of my mind that I own the car and respect my car, therefore I don't want to bend it. It took me many years to get to know my RS4 and admittedly I've had the most fun in it on a track with the ESP off. I figure it will take me a year to get to the same place with the GT-R. So far I like what it does and looking forward to Cadwell on Saturday and Spa in October. I'd like to get a few days in at Donington as it is a track that I know pretty well and confident that I can push it a little harder than I would normally. I was thinking of doing the Ring before Spa, and that could be another opportunity to try it out on a track where I have done quite a few laps in previous cars.

Fact is it is bloody good for the money but there are always compromises. I always fancied a GT3 RS or R8, but there are no back seats.

Thx for the reply. So would you say that despite its unshakable ability, it's still rewarding to drive? I just don't want to end up getting quickly bored of the car because it's too easy to drive fast!

Today, I love the fact that it's a weapon for my 2 to 3 hour motorway runs. Is it rewarding to drive?
re·ward·ing/riˈwôrdiNG/
Adjective:
Providing satisfaction; gratifying.
Synonyms:
profitable - gainful - worthwhile - remunerative
Does it provide satisfaction? Hell yeah. But I'm a purposeful driver (A to B), not a rally driver (Drifting every corner).
Gratifying? It is an indulgence and it makes people smile. Something the B5 RS4 has, but the C5 RS6 did not (Personal experience).
Profitable? Yeah right...
Gainful? See profitable
Worthwhile? You only live once and it was on my list.
Remunerative? Sure.

I'll try to answer again after the weekend when I can tick another box.

In terms of a 2+2 that I can use on the road and track. I think it is the perfect choice.
